This guy, Jerry Miculek, can shoot a target at 1,000 yds, with a hand gun.
Noted, he is doing it in a shallow valley to cut down winds, but hell, thats one heck of a shot. Just for something extra, he can turn the gun upside down and do similar pulling the trigger with his little finger...
I am inclined to believe this video, but is it some form of camera trickery, or a case of 100 shots and one lucky strike?. Again, with the character he is, I am more inclined to believe this is not camera trickery, but is it worth the finding out?.
BTW, He has several video's up on the youtoob, I am inclined to believe this guy is highly skilled with weapons. VERY highly skilled.

some of us have trouble seeing a balloon at 1000 yards, let alone hit one.
but considering riflemen can reach the skill level of "stacking bullets" at 1000 yards, I have no trouble believing a pistol shooter can reach a skill level adequate to hit a balloon.

I would also think that the quality of the pistol would be a factor.

If you are skilled enough yes, the range figures for firearms are the range at which a reasonably skilled marksman can expect it hit a target. Not the maximum range the bullet will/can travel.
I recall seeing a SWAT Captain back in the 90's being interviewed about the training of SWAT teams. At one point he gave the interviewer a sideways look, pulled out his service pistol and fired two shots at a target the size of a human head several hundred yards away. His first missed by about a foot, his second hit dead center. He then holstered his gun, shrugged and said the pistol was the gun he was LEAST proficient with....

Been doing sum maths [pun intend], he would have to incline by about 4 to 5 degrees because "Texas windage" as I have heard it said before, Everything in Texas is just that little bit further away, and then, the slight twitch of a pulse could have you off by a hairs breadth, so his breathing and the like would have to be "zen master", and he is stood up.
Could I haver ever done that myself, as an average competent firearms qualified by RAF ex service person... Yes I could have got the thousand yard shot and hit the piece of 4ft by 4ft square metal backing plate. Prone, with a Lee-Enfield .303 with a good set of sights and about 5 shots to get the sights aligned beforehand.
Hit the balloon?. Quite plausible, and therefore quite probable. .... Eventually.?...
But to do that with a hand gun, beyond may pay grade.....
