the alleged health risks of helium were mentioned elsewhere on the board, and it occurred to me that this might be a good minimyth to do.
it dealt with rumors that children have died from doing too much "helium voice"
a quick google search showed that there is a general consensus that helium is not reactive in the body, and the harm done is via oxygen displacement. that is to say, the harm is because by breathing pure helium, you are not breathing oxygen while you are doing it.
testing would by rather simply done by using an SPO2 meter (blood gas monitor) while breathing specific volumes of specific gas blends.
I.E. breathe until your SPO2 hits 100%, then inhale a half liter of the sample or control mixture and hold your breath for 15 seconds.

Can we get a health advice on this before we start?. Not sure if excessive breathing of an oxygen replacement may harm permanently?..
It IS a Myth that this can cause permanent damage, can we get health professionals to confirm/deny this?.

It IS a Myth that this can cause permanent damage, can we get health professionals to confirm/deny this?. dropping SPO2 below 90% would be cause to not progress further in the experiment. and of course, you note that the SPO2 is allowed to return to 100% before each test. extended time below SPO2 of 90% is considered harmful. - that is the point at which people are normally given supplemental oxygen.
