Its a bad day for ducks.
Not only did we already investigate if their quacks echo or not, "Quack damn you", it has now come to light that Ducks cant Fart.
Not just ducks, as far as I can find out, no Bird is capable of passing wind.
They can and do "belch", but not Fart..
More, it has also been suggested Fish dont either.
Well I have to say, this is possibly true, because I have never seen bubbles arising from my pond anywhere else other than the part with aeration stones, si I will give that a pass.
I have seen fish allowing air to escape from their mouths after they have snatched food from the surface.
But at no other time?.
Is it possible that they dont belch either?.
I do know that the case of a fish lying sideways on the surface is not always terminal illness.
If you see a fish like that, it is possible it has eaten too much or something it ate has upset its digestion, which is pretty much cast iron anyway, but does happen, so yes there is a problem, but no you cant help?.
You ever seen anyone "burp" a fish?.
Keep an eye on it, but leave it alone, it may just sort its self out.
That goes for not just Pond fish but Tank fish as well.
Dont overfeed a fish..
All except one fish that DOES fart...

More on the subject, there is now a twitter hash-tag #doesitfart, no seriously, there is.... twitter.com/hashtag/doesitfart , and whats more, there is a whole spreadsheet's worth of evidence to sift through on what does and doesnt fart.
Some of it is quite funny.
Whats more, there is even a book. Does it Fart? The Definitive Field Guide to Animal Flatulence, www.amazon.com/Does-Fart-Definitive-Animal-Flatulence/dp/0316484156
So I was just wondering, this could be a whole shows worth of silly for the MB's to try and reconcile with, couldnt it?.
Additional, for fish keepers, A Happy fish is a Hungry fish, if its not eating, stop feeding, all food should disappear within a few mins, if not quicker, if its still lying after 5-10 mins, your overfeeding the fish.
This advice freely available from all fish stockists, many internet sites, and free from me as well, so ask about for the best diet for your fish, but do not overfeed thae, they wont thank you for it?.
Small quantities frequently rather than one lump they cant eat all in one go is better, a fishes stomach is often smaller than their eye in actual size on small fish, most fish Graze, one meal daily is sometimes not enough for them, but food lying on the surface or the bottom is bad for water quality.
But again, only feed what they eat, and if they dont eat it all, reduce the amount next time.
For my own fish?.
I feed them the main food once a day, and then, being Koi Carp, I let them graze on fruit.
They love watermelon, dont ask how anyone found that out, I dont know, but they also eat Watercress, Banana, Blackberries, raspberries, and the like, I am happy to leave a few parts floating about the pond as it doesnt harm water quality, and they are removed after a couple of days or as soon as they show signs of spoiling.
They also love Bread, Toast, Rice, ... many and varied foods, even porridge oats, try small quantities at first and remove the uneaten if ignored.
They do not like strong tastes, so no citrus fruits past Oranges, or any food that has been "Spiced".
This may also be regional.
I have one or two adventurous characters that would be there at the opening of a packet of crisps [chips] if they could walk, and they are the first to investigate new food, the rest of the pond will watch them, so maybe it is that some foods that the two main characters in my pond just didnt like may be being rejected by the rest because of that "Alpha" behaviour?.
I am beginning to suspect that fish learn from each other.
Time for new thread.

For the bolson pupfish, a good fart can be a lifesaver: These little fish live in shallow pools in Mexico where they slurp algae off of rocks and burrow into the sediment to hide from predators. When temperatures rise in the summer, the algae squirt out gas bubbles that the pupfish suck down when they eat — making them bloated, and, worse, buoyant.
