If we could collect enough, an episode on different health/first aid related myths could be very useful.
I'll kick things off with the old claim that since human urine is sterile, you can clean a wound in an emergency by peeing on it.
(At least human male urine is supposed to be sterile, that's the usual reasoning behind guys not washing their hands after using the urinal.)
Granted, "in an emergency" means the caregiver is more concerned with keeping the patient alive right now, not with whether the patient will develop an infection in a couple days. But being peed on still can't be good for an injury.
Any other ideas?

putting butter on burn is an old one - (it is also false, in case you were wondering.
only put a tourniquet on if you are going to lose the limb, anyway. (the thinking has changed on this, recently.)
tilt your heed back if you have a nosebleed. (don't. it makes the blood drain into your throat.)
superglue is surgical glue, and can be used to close a wound. (yes, but... surgical glue is a much more pure form, and won't burn like hell)
if you get a tooth knocked out, the best thing to do is gently put it back in the hole, if you can, and otherwise put it in milk for the trip to the dentist. (don't know whether this has been changed recently or not.)
the biggest problem with a first aid episode is getting volunteers.

The tooth thing, according to three years or so ago when one of mine had a tooth knocked out by a "playground bully", not true, the Dentist said "not in all cases", and only for a very few cases will it ever "take". As in, re-set into the hole.
Butter on a Burn, dry or wet heat, if its a wet heat, that wont do much, but on a dry heat, it will help fist dissipate the heat and second add oils back into the affected area the same as a burns cream would that will aid healing?. Or so I was told.... However, on that, if you have access to a kitchen to get butter, why the [redacted] did you walk past a perfectly good FIRST AID KIT to go to the fridge?. Yet it may have some benefit, but if you have a tube of savlon or other burns cream as available, USE THAT, thats what a first aid kit is for. Do NOT use ice, Ice pack maybe, but not actual ice, I have been told you can complicate the burn with freezer burn from use of too much cold ice?. At least put ice in a plastic bag wrapped in a [clean] Te-Towel or something. Chemical burns, run patient under cold water. As much of the patent as you can in case it splashed anywhere else, etc. If its a cold day you can use slightly warmed water if you have the ability to do that, shower unit handy, use that.
First aid, we have too much of a legal threat now, first aid people cant even allow you to take an aspirin for a mild headache, And importantly, be warned, there is a new breed of "I have certificate so I matters" out there, had a mile run in with one who was eager to find out if I carried any prescription drugs that I may need to take during the day at work.... I lied. They stated that "works directive" something or other Space Corps Directive 32124? "No officer with false teeth should attempt oral sex in zero gravity?" said I should "surrender" all prescription tablets to them where they will be kept safe to prevent them falling into wrong hands, at which point I refused to listen to any more of their conversation unless I had the works Boss, a Company Doctor, and my own Union Rep in front of me, because one, I dont bring anything to work, and two, I have been explicitly told I should never surrender them to anyone unless its a police officer or similar.
Volunteers?. they are frightened of legal action should they attempt to help and actually save someone, so they cant do anything.
My suggestion, take the first aid course for your own benefit, and when you get a certificate, immediately put in in your home safe and Tell No One, you can use the knowledge, say "I heard it on TeeVee" or something, but never open yourself up to legal action.

There are many fake medicine ideas out there that need to be busted, this idea is good, but it needs to be done with a good friendly qualified doc and a legal expert sat next to each other to find out if they can actually state that any of the ideas are good, and have a caveat that even if they are confirmed, you do so at your own risk, and never do so unless its the only option? Beware Quackery, false medicine snake oil etc but also beware medical advice that may change in the near future. If I had a thousand quid for every "this is how to deal with your kid" idea that changed direction, and added a thousand for every "Bacon eggs fish" and the like that "is bad for you" that changed over the last 20 yrs or so, not only would I have paid off my own mortgage, I could have bought half the bloody street with it?.
For sanities sake, BUST some of the very dangerous fake myths, get it out there that peeing on a jellyfish sting is a bloody bad idea, and makes the Hospital workers day bad, because they now have to wash the whole patient before they can deal with the sting, and get the knowledge that fresh water is just as good, because what you have there is a Chemical burn.
Was it Vinegar on a wasp sting because they are alkali based and Milk on a bee because they are acid based, or was it the opposite?. How do you tell?. I know, but thats because I have good eyesight for that kind of thing, bees move differently from wasp as well. For my kids, when they were young, anything black and gold was a wasp, time to run about stupid annoying it even further, until I managed to vaccinate them from "skool lerning" and get sense in them by telling them to only move if it gets too close and do so slowly and gently and the insect will leave you alone, dont annoy it because it WILL attack you if you do.

(I forget the exact specifications given, but it is something the average person can recognize without measuring devices) as for volunteers, I was referring to people volunteering to have the first aid treatments tested on them. and here, the law says, if a person volunteers first aid, within the scope of their training, they cannot be held liable for failure. another myth to test is that the adhesive on Scotch 33 electrical tape is the same as neosporin (antibiotic ointment) (which could be tested without a volunteer)

I don't know how they would test it, but I'd love to see them finally bust the good old myth that RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) is the right way to treat sprains and other soft tissue injuries.
Not only does ice and rest not help the healing process, but research going as far back as the late 90's has consistently demonstrated that it does the exact opposite, yet it's still the standard of care everywhere from kindergartens to emergency rooms all over the world.
Even the fact that the guy who originally came up with the RICE standard has repeatedly stated in public that new research proves he was wrong hasn't been enough to persuade medical professionals to abandon it.

Neck tourniquets.
I still see people make jokes about those.

Neck tourniquets. I still see people make jokes about those. anybody who takes the idea of a neck tourniquet seriously needs constant adult supervision. however, they COULD address the changing attitude towards use of tourniquets. the current doctrine is tourniquets save lives, and frequently not at the expense of limbs - most trauma medics carry them as a matter of course.
