Nightmares are more common if you sleep on your left side.
Take a test sample of 100 people, get half to sleep on their left side for a week, half to sleep on their right side, and then the next week, swap, and then third week sleep on your back.
Get them to "rate" their dreams, good bad or indifferent.
This can be done outside normal recording limitations, all you need is 100 volunteers, maybe even use of twitter at the @mythbusters followers?. Maybe I need to suggest it on twitter?.

How often do people have nightmares? Over a three week period, I don't know if I would have even one. Most of my dreams, at least the ones I remember, are kind of strange, but I wouldn't classify them as nightmares.

I am the same way and I alternate between sleeping on my left side, and my back.
so what is the reasoning behind the myth?

Reason behind myth, QI on twitter have stated that "This be true", and because QI Elves research, I suspect it has been suggested to be true, and I cant find anything but anecdotal evidence to support the myth, I wish I knew their sources, but its one I believe in, because if I sleep on my left side, I dont get a good nights sleep, disturbed sleep, and kind of remembrance of not-to-good dreams.
So this is a myth, because in mentioning, to people who probably dont twit, so dont get QI tweets, a lot of people I know have stated yes thats kind of true to them as well. So I am asking a broader audience?.
And also as it has been raised as a myth, I want to see it tested.
Me believing this be true is no reason to say I fully believed that two cars at 30 mph head on is a 60mph crash, and that has been proven false, so maybe me believing this myth is also false, so it needs a test, yes?.
And it aint that hard to test, ask volunteers who can phone in results after a 3 week period, or even a whole month alternating between left side or right?.
Perhaps ask them beforehand if they have any personal beliefs of this myth and see if under test they change their minds?. Or scratch that, would knowledge of the myth under test spoil the results by predjudicing the results. Perhaps a test of sleep quality between choices of Good sound nights sleep reasonable nights sleep. average disturbed sleep bad sleep Nightmares bad dreams Rate 1 to 6 for each night.
