So in 3 weeks we will have the 50th Anniversary of the landing on the moon. How are you all celebrating? This thread is for all things related to this event. I have been listening to a podcast called "13 Minutes to the Moon". It's produced by the BBC and goes into detail on just what all was involved in making the moon landing possible. Very interesting series to listen to. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w13xttx2Any recommendations on movies to watch with the kids?

I probably won't be doing anything special.
if you want to have fun with it, there's always Jules Verne's From the Earth to the Moon (if you can find it - I've never looked)

There are some things that happen that are burned in your mind so strong that you never forget where you were and what you were doing when they happened. For me there were three, they are JFK's assignation, the 911 attack, and Apollo 11 landing on the moon. One thing I would recommend is Apollo 13. The book, not the movie. While I really liked the movie, it was just that, a screenplay. The book was more the real story and what I really enjoyed was how much technical detail was in it. Stuff that they could never go into in a movie. Another good read is the wiki article on the entire Apollo missions. It's a little long but well worth the time. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_programI think it's a real shame that after 50 years, we've never been back.
