We've had discussions all over, so now I'm just starting a dedicated one.
**
The publisher who was handling Alterna Comics' single issues has broken contract, so to help pay for the cost of getting a new print service up and running they're having a "flash" sale on Indiegogo.
They're only after a thousand bucks, and so stretch goals should be kicking in shortly. What's more, 10% of the take is going to charity and if they cross the goal it'll be 100 comics to Toys For Tots.
Most of the items for sale are graphic novels, either anthology books or full-series collections; either sales of graphic novels are slow, or they're wanting this to be a jumping-on point for people.
It's called "Twelve Days of Alterna".

Also in the news?
Writer Donnie Cates kicked off a firestorm recently when a post he made condemning comic book piracy got people trying to explain why they pirate, leading to an explosion as people went back and forth.

I'll bite: how do you pirate print media? do people actually go into kinkos and print copies to give away?

I'll bite: how do you pirate print media? do people actually go into kinkos and print copies to give away? You get digital images of it and upload it to the internet. It's easier if you get a digital copy and can crack the security encoding, but there are people dedicated enough to scan printed pages.

It varies from person to person as to why they do it. For example, here in the US comic book prices are up to $5 an issue on average, with some special editions hitting $8 to $10. Because of this, a lot of people would rather kick a buck or two over to a pirate to read it than pay cover price. Other people do it because certain material isn't available in certain countries, so they know that the people in those countries will pay for even raw uploads that haven't been translated yet. For example, it can be a year before issues of some Japanese comics get translated into English, so people will pay the pirates to gain access to the current Japanese comics.

IDW Publishing.
One of their top editors resigns his post.
Five days later, his replacement is put on administrative leave, no explanation why.
Wow.
