Exhibition shooters sometimes use parrafin wax bullets, powered by the primer only when shooting at close ranges, indoors.
They would use a handgun case with the primer flash hole drilled out larger, (otherwise, the primer would set back, and lock up the action,) push the cartridge case into a slighty softened cake of the parafin, pull the case back out, and seat a primer in the case.
They were fairly accurate at very close ranges, but didn't have much velocity.

That could be a definite maybe for replecation of the results if it turns out the soap doesn't work.
