This is inspired by when Jamie said two trucks crashing head on is like a faster crash for a single truck into a stationary object, or something along those lines.
Mathematically two identical cars traveling head-on into each other at 50mph is like each car hitting a solid unmovable wall at 50mph.
In theory with the real car crash in ideal conditions no part of either car should cross this mid point plane as where it comes into contact with the plane an equal part with the same momentum should hit on the opposite side and stop it.
If we replace this imaginary plane with a big sheet of paper it shouldn't be punctured as the physics says. This is a challenge for the mythbusters to replicate as a proof of concept similar to how they did the bullet drop versus fired.
They can start with small models then move up to go-cart sized vehicles with pre fabricated cracks cut for predictable debris, then try the full sized thing.
What do you think? I thought I would submit a 'myth' since I'm on the boards.

Well, in theory you may be right. But, I guess this is another case where theory is impossible to be reproduced in practice.
But the idea is intriguing, indeed.

Punctured, probably not, if two equal forces hit at the same time...
Crushed.... dependant on how the paper is made....
For instance, corrugated cardboard will be squashed flat, so what kind of crush damage will be created to paper by high impact?....

The paper is just meant to be a thin fragile object that will obviously break if the parts from each direction didn't meet at the same point. Not too bothered about crushing.
Just realised we will have to get a left-hand and right-hand drive version of the same car, otherwise the drivers seat won't be a perfect mirror for the crash.

But, I guess this is another case where theory is impossible to be reproduced in practice. bio That's because in practice, the difference between theory and practise is greater than in theory!
