Those sound like primitive versions of what hang gliders are made of now. Seems like you ought to be able to construct something workable from them.
(I have a mental image of Klinger trying to fly to freedom in his fuzzy pink slippers)

Wood, waxed silk & twine.... Those sound like primitive versions of what hang gliders are made of now. Early hang glider frames were made of bamboo. The sail was a plastic sheet. You could definitely do a respectable job with bamboo, waxed silk, and twine.
