Die Hard 4 18wheeler
It was either here or Movie myths?... still not sure where it goes best...
{Moved to Movie myths, as this is a better place for it - CM}
Either way, during that film, Bruce Willis has a 18-wheeler not up "On two wheels", but up on 9... as in, all balanced on the wheels on one side....
To start with, it was balanced on the right side, and he steered LEFT to recover it?...
Second, I dont think you CAN recover something like that........... What do you think?

well, balanced on the right and jerking left to recover is obviously not happening. perhaps not quite balanced and jerking left to slow the return to level would be plausible.
as far as actually performing the stunt, it is most likely it was a "practical" stunt done with a modified truck.

I suspected CGI....... On a spiral upwards road turning left all the time, if you started to lean, your a passenger?...

I suspected CGI....... On a spiral upwards road turning left all the time, if you started to lean, your a passenger?... we have professional drivers over here whose specialty is driving with half the wheels off the ground. you have to modify the differential to keep power to the wheels still on the ground, and usually they way overinflate the tires to keep them from rolling off the wheels; but other than that, it is a learned skill.

The truck in the film is articulated. No one I know has ever gotten air fully under one side of an articulated vehicle and been happy about it....
Complex axle arrangements, suspension, the fifth wheel, having all the weight on less than half the tyres (In the case of 4 tyre axles), the load shifting................. just a few things to think on.....
I honestly do not think it can be done "On Purpose", and when it has happened, the result is a new source of scrap metal?..........

interestingly, I cannot find one single bit on the internet that refers to it. however, to place it in perspective - to create the backbone of the scene where he takes down the helicopter with a car, they really sent a car off a ramp and hit a helicopter with it; and many of the other spectacular stunts, were also created by really causing the action to happen - though they filled in the elements around the action with CGI.
by "practical stunt" I mean they did not just borrow a truck from some passer by and drive it around on two wheels. they definitely would have modified the truck, including not having loose cargo in the trailer.

The articulated hitch "Fifth Wheel" articulates in all dimensions... This is where I struggle on this one, it is quite possible to have the cab at a sideways tilted angle that the trailer is not at, this allows for the vagueness of road surfaces and loading ramps. That being the case, if the towing vehicle is at an angle being balanced on one set of side wheels, can you in any way have any form of control over the tilt of the trailer, that is capable of being at a completely different angle?....
Ok, yes, there are limitations on how much of a difference this allows, and unlike say a car and trailer where one part could flip sideways but the other be still on its wheels, the Fifth Wheel will only allow so much difference, but the mass of both the trailer and the Cab unit are enough to make that difference a balancing act that I am wondering of it is at all possible in the first place....
This is where I call the myth, because as a Wagon Driver who has driven similar vehicles, and an avid watcher of all motor sports, including stunts in trucks, I have NEVER seen anyone do that......On Purpose.....
However, I have seen heavy vehicles of all sizes lift one side in high winds.... Trust me, its looks as scary as it is. I have had it happen to me... initially, its "WTF?..!!!" Then its "Oh Sh------" Then its have you got enough road-space to bring it down safely without hitting anyone, then its where can I get where this wont happen again.............
Mostly this happens on High Bridges. In High winds, I park up... somewhere safe....

replace the fifth wheel with something that only articulates in 2 directions. there ARE youtube vids of tractors, and cube/box trucks running on one side on youtube.
