'You're never more than six foot from a rat'
I know this to be bunkum, because I just know.... But they say this about City Centres. How true in the City?... are the sewers THAT bad?....
And which city?... Calcutta, maybe, others with better sewer systems?...

I live on the edge of town, not far from a rural area.
Ever since the economy started turning bad, people have been dumping their animals. There's one cat colony operating in my neighborhood, and two known colonies operating at different ends of a local walking path.
Ever since the cat colonies have moved in, those places that shelter them have had minimal problems with snakes and rodents.

The next time you have a transport manager trying to persuade you to bend the laws of space and time to get a load there before you leave with it, take out your pocket tape measure and measure the distance between you and mumble, "so it's true"
he will have no idea what you are on about, which will make it all the more funny.

Right, Lightworks. The places I usually end up working, I'm sure it's true. Problem is, they aren't the rodent variety of rats.

Thats the thing with averages and statistics, where do rats live... and not at the average distance to the NEXT rat?....
There are vast swathes of open country and other places where rats do not live, which must change that distance.
But not in any way does it bring it down near 6ft?.....

Yes but given that there are some areas where there are many rats and others none, it goes to prove that you may sometimes be in an area with no rats, and far more than 6 ft from one.

OK, so who wants to go to M5, pitch the idea to Jamie and imply that his shop is rat-infested?

Depends on who pays for the travel Funeral arrangements, but I would volunteer to discuss possible rodent infestations with Jamie.... *Fixed it for you - CM *

Last I looked the live just about anywhere they can find sufficient food & shelter. We have several underground train stations here in Sydney & it’s not uncommon to see something scurrying along the tracks while your waiting for your train. Last week when I came home to my apartment block, I saw something scurrying across the communal courtyard & down a drain pipe. This is one of the reasons I own a cat – the smell of a cat scares the *CENSORED* out of rodents & keeps them out of your home. Actually that sounds like a good minni myth to test. Does the smell of a cat or cats deter rodents from invading a home?

Not if the rodent is a carrier for the organism called Toxoplasma gondii, a parasite which does through several stages of it`s life cycle in various hosts, but can only reproduce in cats, according to studies it makes rodents less cautions of cats smell certainly, and may possibly make them attracted to their smell.
