it IS. she was supporting the other end of the plank.
here, the hammer guys don't claim to be faster - they claim to get the job done better. the counterargument from the nail gunners is that better than good enough is not necessary.

And therein, I believe, lies the difference. What does the customer expect and what's the time constraint?

And therein, I believe, lies the difference. What does the customer expect and what's the time constraint? well, my parents house was 6 months from first shovel to last check. a lot of houses I wire barely even have the foundation done after 6 months. the hammers-only crew I worked with the most also used an 8 foot straightedge and hand planes to be sure the walls were straight, plumb, and true. (and the general contractor had no qualms about kicking subcontractors' employees off the job if they were careless)

*Moderator Hat on*
When I said 'that sounds like a show idea', I didn't really want you to start discussing it in the existing thread about the Zombie special episode. Apart from anything else the shows researchers will be looking for ideas in the section of that is labelled for show ideas, not episode reviews.
Moved all the posts under my original 'Sounds like a show idea' post to this new thread in the correct section of the board.
This has some potential I think, although not purely as a hammer against nail gun test. I'm thinking of some sort of 'Man Against Machine' themed episode here - of which this could be a part.
So any other situations where manual labour might be capable of out performing a machine?

So any other situations where manual labour might be capable of out performing a machine? the general rule of thumb has always been when the machine first arrives on the scene, any good man can beat it. there is a tipping point, where the machine gets good enough that the average man with the machine can beat the average man working without. electric drills used to be wimpy enough that a good man with brace and bit could beat a man with an electric drill. similarly, a team with hammer and star drill could beat the first steam drill; and a good axeman could beat the first power saw. when my mother was in typing class the students had to exceed a certain pace, before they were allowed to use the IBM Selectrics - and most students used one once, and went back to manuals because the Selectric couldn't keep up.

some modern tests might be optical sorting, self driving cars, or facial recognition software.

Resist.... Resist.... RESIST...
Epic FAIL... I cant resist.....
Does that mean she was making numerous cups of tea/coffee and standing by with the first aid kit?....
My missus does that for me as well.
[Plank..UK slang for the ijurt holding the bit of wood.... comes from 'as thick as a 4ft plank'...]

My missus does that for me as well. [ Plank..UK slang for the ijurt holding the bit of wood.... comes from 'as thick as a 4ft plank'...] I never drink tea or coffee. it keeps me awake when I should be working our new best siding for po' folks is Hardiplank. fiber cement board in 8"X12' planks, about 3/8" thick. it doesn't rot, but it's heavy and has to be carried carefully to prevent it breaking in two. now they make an ingenious clamp system that gives you the perfect overlap and supports it for nailing, but I didn't have them. it also pretty much has to be shot on with a siding gun, since hand nailing it consists of starting the hole with one nail, then throwing away the bent nail before setting the second nail. the siding gun hits the nail hard enough to drive it through before it has a chance to bend. I'd show you a picture of it in process, but those are all on film, and I'm not sure where they landed.

I saw something similar.... The guy dong it had a electric screwdriver with a wood bit making holes "In the right place" before he hung it?... Seamed kinda complicated to me. Even stranger, he wasnt putting any kind of insulation under the planking?... For me, I would have fully insulated that cavity and a waterproof sheeting to hold it in place..... As for your mention of breaking in two.... Erm.... No, Thats a walk-away if it has the chance of snapping. Ingenious.... I havce seen a product in use, made from recycled TYRES...... The outside resembles partially worn (Not new look) wood planks.... You can paint it with anything you want. (As log as it isnt watercolour?.... But it bends better than plywood, is as easy to cut as MDF, and is guaranteed if used correctly to last 20 odd years.....

with this stuff, a wood bit wouldn't cut it. it'll also take the new right off a cheap twist bit. as for holesaws - a carbide blade with big carbides does pretty good. it'll take the teeth right off a standard bimetal blade.
and I've never seen a house sided with it need resided. it certainly doesn't shatter like tupperware siding, and if you want bad - try the infamous LP lap. siding made of water soluble waferboard with a paper protective coating over it.
