Clarkson reported the incident. This is breaking about now, but, www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-31869967Well there is the bit that wasnt being reported that I have been digging about for... It WAS Clarkson who made the complaint about the Producer(s). Note "Suggests"... as in the reporters do not know, but are "Guessing".... More when I find it, but so far, we are not being told the whole story, but there is some tension (known) about the producers yanking his chain into "Controversial" situations.

I recall there have been complaints made by him about producers telling him he must say things he feels are inappropriate; including the EEny Meenie Miney Moe story.

I think the "controversy" in Argentina could very be productions doing also. I doubt the hosts are arranging their own vehicle rentals/registrations so I don't think any of the three of them intentionally put in effort to get the "H982 FLK" plate.
A lot of the problems with Clarkson seem to end with production pointing it's collective finger at him and not claiming an culpability.
So, the key questions here: Is Clarkson really this insufferable and/or intolerant? Or, has production turned him into a patsy/scapegoat?

Or, has production turned him into a patsy/scapegoat? my personal thinking is that he is a naturally abrasive person, but he exaggerates his abrasiveness for the show - which is good for the show. the producers see this and want him to exaggerate it still further, which causes bad blood between him and the producers. he and Hammond and May seem to get along about as well as Jamie and Adam, which is to say they work well together, and enjoy it, but don't feel inclined to all go out to a pub together on the week-end.

It's easy to imagine why one or two people would try to set him up to fail. People could have many reasons for that. But the entire production crew? Either someone would have had to do a bang up job of profiling him as "the enemy" to the rest of the crew, or they have good reason to not like him and want him gone.

I think by "production" urban is referring to the producers, not the crew. and it could well be that some of the producers think they can do better, if only Clarkson, who happens to have an ownership interest in the show, goes away.

Either way, there's a hint of personal about this that can't just have turned up out of nowhere. Sure, Hammond and May are good, but Top Gear without Clarkson? If these producers think they can do better, they need to be fired, because they obviously have no idea what Clarkson means to the show, and more importantly the fans. And let's face it. No one in the world of television has a very long career if they show that poor judgement. If you fire a star like him without proper cause, you're a TV pariah for the rest of your life and they must know this, so for all intents and purposes, I have to assume that whatever reason someone could have for wanting him gone, they have to think it's worth it. There's something underneath all of this that we're not seeing. I don't know if it's a question of Clarkson sleeping with one (or more) of the producers' wives, him being a total a**hole off camera or someone just having deep personal issues of another nature with him, but no one does something like this just because they can. If this is all a ploy to get him off the show and he really hasn't done any of the things he's been accused off, he's p*ssed somone off. I don't know how or why or if it's bad enough that the rest of us should care, but he has.

Sadly, such things have happened in the past. In 2010, actor David Yost claimed in an interview that he was pressured into leaving the "Power Rangers" franchise after someone outed him as a homosexual; one of the producers and a number of production staff members turned on him, not only harrasing him but also conducting an inquisition among the other cast members to see who knew what when. Yost is still willing to participate in the global fandom for the franchise, but has sworn off ever appearing in the show again as long as the same production individuals are still involved.

And, as per my previous argument, he had "done something" to make people mad enough to want him gone. (Not that I think homosexuality is necessarily something you "choose to do", but try and convince the homophobes of that...) However idiotic a reason they had, it was still a reason. If Clarkson is being set up to fail by someone, there's a reason behind that as well and I hardly think it's because he's gay, so the question reamins. If someone wants him gone, why?

I would wonder if money might be a factor. producers can be bean counters. I agree, but they have to realize that they won't make any money without him, so saving a couple of million now by getting rid of him may end up costing them more in the long run. They can't be so stupid that the thought hasn't occured to them, can they?

When you say it like that, I can't remember who it was, but I did once see an interview with a famous actor where he said (and I'm paraphrasing), "If lawyers are like sharks - cold, calculating killers - most producers are like piranhas. They mindlessly follow the others and don't care what their prey is, or if it's even dead or alive, as long as they get to eat."

Clarksons share of Top Gear is Global. It will be worth a lot after he goes. It may take an initial dip, but worldwide, that dip may even return to its current state very quickly if they find the right replacement.... Its his retirement fund, this has already been planned, be sure of that, he knows he will retire at some point.
The Brand will not ever be worthless, as the show has its own show in many countries that will not be affected by his absence....
Even if it dips in value after he leaves the show, he will still own a sizable chunk, and retain some editorial control of whats left, on a global scale.
Getting rid of Clarkson in the UK show is like taking the name Robinson out of the Swiss Family Robinson, Its taking the Crusoe out of Robinson Crusoe. And yes, Clarkson owns the chunk that is the "Name" Top Gear.....
In other words, if someone had come in to my Pub and "forced me out", the pub will close for good, I am the landlord, I OWN the license, I OWN the business, it is not anything viable without me, its not even legal without me. Yes it can start again under a different name, different crew, but who would want to do that?.. it looses what it is in the change, you loose customers who are loyal to the existing crew.
Remember when Adam had a producer sacked on the MB show?... Clarkson has more rights to do that than Adam did.
However.....
The BBC and the show. Yes Clarkson has a "Higher Deity" than himself, the people that commission the show. He may have the right to take his whole business elsewhere, like ITV, Dave, etc, and he may have the right to franchise Forza (The well known video game) in on the business, but, the BBC are the ones who Bank roll the production of the show, and sell it around the world.
As mentioned before, the main producer is a life-long friend of Jezza, I doubt this will even cause a spat between them, its between Jezza and ONE producer of the show, Named in the news reports. If anyone is going, it will be that one producer...?...
If Jezza "walks", he can do that, he can retire, and he can be safe that his likkle retirement fund will still be worth much more than when he bought into it. He aint a stupid monkey, he may be a big gorilla, but he knows his "investment" may take a dip if he leaves the show, he probably has made calculations into how much that dip will be, so already has a good idea how it will perform after he leaves. And he only leaves the show on screen.... As said, he probably will retain some form of editorial control of the brand name once he is gone.
And just to mention, Jeremy has made comments into the fact "I am getting too bloody old for all this" more than once, and very recently, he was quite serious about is "I am off to the job center" remarks, it has been noted that he is serious about making the right choice of his next career move. He aint getting any younger...
He is about the same age as me, same build, and we have (sort of) similar problems with miss-shaped bits in the spine, so I feel his pain when he has to load up on painkillers just to climb in and out of some low slung boys-toy tire shredded. I would be thinking of long term future as well....
In fact, I am, I am wondering just how long I can continue on the roads as a driver. Just yesterday I nearly got wiped out by a taxi who changed lanes within inches of my front bumper at 40mph... and when I say inches, I mean less than a foot and not exaggerating inches....
