that was a great interview. I really have trouble seeing anyone american pulling off such a great interview. addendum: random cultural tidbit: in America, the pronunciation of "fracas" is "FRAY-kass"

I think it's that whole British "stiff upper lip" thing...

I think it's that whole British "stiff upper lip" thing... or that whole British "ability to be self effacing" thing.

And trust me they tried?..... Honestly, as this is the first thread I read today, thats a ice way to meet the morning, a good laugh.
Classic Andy, you tell 'em Lad.
I dont get it either. I send you a letter marked strictly private and confidential and spend a fortune on Anti-Virus making sure its 128bit encryption wont be compromised, and I see it on the front page of the Sun... This week, Price Charles "PRIVATE" letters to the Govt have been subpena-nered by the sun as "in the public interest" and will be published. I am not happy. Private means private, have we given up the right to say private? If not even the HRH price of Wales can write a "What the bloody hell do you think you are doing" to the Prime minister marked private, what hope have we got?

What are you going to do now... Make shepherds pie. That would have been my type of answer...

Private means private, have we given up the right to say private? Well, since everyone's on Fakebook these days and Mark Zuckerberg has banned the use of the word "privacy" at Fakebook board meetings and seeing as no one is free of Fakebook anymore, whether you've signed up for it or not, I'd say yeah. We're pretty close. Just for once, I don't blame Qwerty. I blame all the idiots who tuck their heads in the sand and refuse to listen every time this is brought up.

I was going to put this in Funny Pictures, but thought it was better suited here. Captain Picard Nails It!

Please do try... Unfortunately, as he owns most of the media, try getting someone to do that for you, they will all close ranks and guard his interests.
Why would the 'Muricans have trouble pulling it off. (And pull your minds back up from the gutter.....)
I cant see why you 'Muricans have such trouble being *honset* without telling the truth in such way... He didnt tell any lies, he just was economical with the truth, which is an american saying, he also didnt refuse to comment, he just gave answers that had all the right words, but perhaps not in an order that was wanted by other people.... Which is what should be expected of James. Who probably has an IQ higher than the combined total of all the reporters in front of him. Think Steven Fry on wheels.... Oh, no, thats Stephen Hawkins. Ok, think of someone really intelligent with an advanced driving license... And lets not forget at 264mph, James was the fastest man in a standard production car for 15 mins. Not bad for captain slow.

Not bad for captain slow. Any time an American celebrity is exposed to a camera or a microphone, their entire demeanor and character is overtly about drawing attention to themselves. even if they want no attention to be paid to them they go about it in such a way as to maximize the attention paid to not paying attention. they are also virtually incapable of being subtle; and for the most part they don't think on their feet 3/4 as well as he did. It is just the mixture of panache, nonchalance, humility, likeability, sincerity, and humor that Americans cannot do off-the-cuff like that. it would take an American 5 rehearsals and three takes to do that if May wrote the script. I think maybe one of our legendary chat show presenters MIGHT be able to pull it off in one go, but we're talking someone like Johnny Carson to do it.

I think Letterman and Leno could pull it off as well, and maybe Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington as the only two actors, but I think we'll run out after that

Tom Cruise appeared on TG UK, and he was quite a good interview... Heck, we have had a LOT of USA actors over here on TG who did quite well at being interviewed.
However, you have to be a Northern UK comedian to get to the top of the TG lap times on a regular basis. Who knew we could be so good. Perhaps its all the clear spaces we have to practice being fast... (On race tracks, not open road... honest....)

I don't think letterman could. Funny I would have actually picked Letterman as the better one of the two Not that I want to start a discussion about why you say one and I say the other. I just thought it was a little funny that we look at those two so differently

I just thought it was a little funny that we look at those two so differently Letterman is undeniably good at what he does. however, I feel he is a bit more self-referential.
