crab bait springs to mine. Shark bait? Though, would that be considered chumming the water or dumbing the water?

I have noticed that the "Gold rush" seams to be on how dangerous a place can you find to prospect for gold....
In the middle of a war torn country?... Not enough. How about in a valley that gets regular avalanche?... Now THATS a good place to set up camp......

How about in a valley that gets regular avalanche?... Now THATS a good place to set up camp...... That's true. And every lead is a dead end due to no gold (after wasting a week prospecting) or having been mined out already. I think Todd Hoffman needs to find a new guy to give him leads. Then again, by my guesstimations, he should have run out of money six months ago. Is Disco funding his tomfoolery now? (I know Disco pays him for appearing in the show but not nearly the amount he needs to continue his Quixotic quest for gold) A song is coming to mind: "I want my Mythbusters" sung to the beat of Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" (classic line "I want my M-T-V" becomes "I want my Myth-bus-ters")

Adam's doing an AMA on Reddit currently, with the occasional bit copied to his Twitter. I can't find the question on Reddit, but he tweeted "New eps in the New Year!"

Discovery seems to be more concerned with programming about the south & Alaska. Moonshiners & Porter Ridge (a huge pile of steaming...) are both back. Alaska: The Last Frontier & Gold Rush are both back (following the Gold Rush/South America spin-off). The filming of Deadliest Catch was delayed due to the Government Shutdown. MBs have always been money-in-the-bank for Disco, so it seems the delay is alienating the viewers who only watch Disco because of quality programming such as MBs. I wonder if anybody on the MBs production staff would be able to give a better estimate of when the new season will start? More people watch the shows you listed. MB wish they had the viewership of Gold Rush. Just over 3 million people tuned in to watch last Friday's episode. As it turns out, MB can barely attract 1 million. Their best ever episode was the re-re-vist with the Pres: 2 million. That's still far short of Gold Rush. Their zombie commercial didn't even rate 1 million viewers. Only around 740,000 tuned in to watch the program on the subject matter they repeatedly promised they would never test. More people watched Pawn Stars that night: Over 3 million for each half hour episode in the same time slot. Amish Mafia brings in over 2 million.

I think Mythbusters wish they had the advertisement and support Gold Rush currently has.
Viewing figures for MB were 1,147,000 as of mid June this year, at which time it was the only Discovery Channel show even on the ratings list. The lower figures for the Zombie special are unsurprising, traditionally their specials have done worse than their regular episodes (at least for the last few years) and of course it was not heavily advertised. Basically the show is probably showing lowish viewing figures simply because a lot of the people who would love to watch it have no idea when new episodes are being aired - and currently it seems no one has any idea when new episodes will be aired.
We should also be wary of the officially listed figures, as those often given are for the 18-35 male viewers so beloved of advertisers - who seem to think that anyone outside that age or who has ovaries don't buy anything. Even looking at TC it is clear that rather a lot of the shows viewers fall outside that range. The figures might also fail to account for people who record the show to watch later - that was one of the (alleged) problems with the viewing figures for Star Trek Enterprise. I say 'might' because I'm not sure if they have updated the system yet.
One thing Mythbusters DOES have is a strong and consistent fan base. Specials, and advertising that makes you wonder why the marketing people haven't been fired or thrown off the roof, aside. Mythbusters viewing figures have been consistent over the years, making it a dependable (and low cost) show for Discovery that has a good brand recognition. The original series of Star Trek had the same sort of consistent fan base during its original run, but back then studios didn't realise the importance of this. Today studios/networks just love shows that manage consistent viewer figures due to dedicated fans, and it was pointed out that had the Original Trek been on air fifteen to twenty years later it probably wouldn't have been cancelled at the end of its third season*.
(*Unless it had the misfortune to be aired on Fox, which is apparently allergic to interesting and quality shows.)

if it was on FOX it would have been lucky to survive its first season.

we can only wait and see. I figure if they put a commercial on TV they are pretty sure this time. And the link you provided has pics which also give the 4th as date. Also the pics of the show gives some clues as to what they are busting. dsc.discovery.com/tv-shows/mythbusters/photos/mythbusters-m5-star-wars-photos.htmOn the commercial last night they previewed where Luke and Princess Leia swing to freedom and something about a battering ram.

Ladies and Gentlemen, go take a close look at those pictures...Then go read the Star Wars Challenge thread on here again from the start. Death Star Swing - Posted in the OP Using a Tautaun to keep Luke warm - Posted in the thread, in fact going off the pictures it looks like their test rig is similar to some of the ideas that were batted around here. So it seems that someone at MB did catch the thread, and took at least two ideas from us*. (*Well, we don't know that they actually took the ideas from here. They could have picked those scenes/ideas out themselves. But lets pretend shall we... ) The advert I've been able to pull up online (via UTube) indicates that it is a special two part episode. So chances are they tested more myths than are show - increasing the possibility that they included some of the other ideas that were posted. Incidentally, mention of a 'battering ram' makes me wonder if they decided to test the Ewok swinging tree trap myth that was posted in the thread. I seem to recall saying something about that being the ideal 'big build' for such an episode.
