This is only part of a larger one, but it's one of the few bits I still remember.
I'm out running my route, which in this includes a neighborhood over by a large church facility. The neighborhood is on a slight slope, with the church property at the top. A public road loops around the neighborhood, and serves to divide the houses from the church property. The official dividing line is a chest-high concrete retaining wall on the opposite side of the road, with the wall being topped by a metal fence. My route includes the neighborhood, but that dividing line also marks the boundary of my route; someone else is responsible for the church property and everything else next to it.
I'm doing a regular delivery run, even though it appears to be Sunday and IRL we don't deliver on Sunday. Something has caused me to be well behind schedule, such that not only is the sun out, people are coming in to the church property via that entrance. There's no way I can get the car through, so I just park it and walk the few blocks where the worst of the traffic is, delivering handfuls at a time. Of course, since the paper has a religion-related news story on the front (below the fold, but still there), I end up giving a lot away to pedestrians.
I get to the far side of the neighborhood, and there's a guy (street preacher?) in a Jesus costume talking with a few others. The last customer in this neighborhood is over there, so once I get that person and maybe the few others I can go back to the car and get the last couple houses on the route. Instead, as I'm talking to the group, the guy in the costume seemingly flips out, screams "Get thee behind me, Satan!", and charges towards the fence.
By the time we realize what's going on, it's too late. Apparently, the guy in the costume saw someone suspicious and went for it. The someone suspicious actually had some sort of explosive device, which they lobbed. The costume guy is hurt by the blast (by "hurt" I mean "he's not moving"), leaving me to contact emergency services *and* try to establish a perimeter since no one else is moving fast enough to get anything done; the few who actually know what to do are too stunned to act.
I *think* I spot the guy and try to apprehend him, but he sets off a second device as a decoy. I'm hit, but it's minor and anyway I've got enough adrenaline going through me to where I can kill a rhino bare-handed. Thanks to the confusion and the assembled masses, however, he's able to get away.
Suffice to say those last few papers didn't get delivered. I remember planning to deliver them to the customers alongside the next set of regularly-scheduled papers.
I also remember having to clean the blood out of the bath tub after I tried getting cleaned up following all of this.

and we know it was a dream because in real life your mother would have interrupted you while you were trying to get cleaned up, and wanted you to do some minor thing for her right now.

Had a rather hilarious one just a few hours ago whilst taking a nap.
It was part of a larger dream in which the town I live in was similar enough for me to know it was home, but different enough for me to realize that it was some sort of dream. For example, in the dream there was a row of storefronts in the downtown area (no such storefronts exist in real life) that are slowly being converted to small townhouses because there aren't any retailers interested in moving in anymore.
As part of it, I was actually at home when I looked out the kitchen window into the back yard and saw what appeared to be a lengthy excavator arm reaching over the fence, but with a sensor instead of a bucket. By the time I get my mom's attention, the arm has retracted (dropping a piece of the equipment in the process) and a small two-legged bird-like robot has entered through a section of the fence that's been taken down in order to probe around. By the time I get my shoes on and go out back, a goodly chunk of the fence is gone, and two cargo trucks followed by two passenger cars have parked on the lawn, with construction vehicles behind what's left of the fence. Yes, in the dream the back yard is large enough to hold all of this even though there's a downward slope.
I find the #2 man of the job and have words with him. He's rather sheepish over the fact that I'm having to return a piece of equipment to him, but he's a legit blue-collar joe just doing his job and so he gives it to me straight. The city's been monitoring our water usage, and they've noted that we're using what seems to be far too much of it... especially at night. They're looking for our water service line so that they can open it up and attach monitors to it, ostensibly to measure if someone's been illegally tapping our line (short of doing a massive digging job to splice the line, I muse, the most that someone could do is use our spigots). I respond by noting that we're required to receive notice of such things and no notice was given, but all he can do is refer me to the #1 guy.
The #1 guy - the head of the job - is speaking with some sort of Eastern European accent. He has no time or patience with me when it comes to explaining the situation, and so he insists that I simply watch a DVD which will explain what's going on and why. A portion of the patio was converted into a small party center some time ago, and so it's got a TV, cable box, and DVD player ready to go; it's just under tarps and whatnot to keep it protected (IRL, this would be a bad idea to have such electronics in an open-air environment, regardless of how well it's been tarped, due to the weather). Instead of letting me just fire up the player that's already there, however, he insists that I plug his top-of-the-line model in. These things are all plug-and-play, so I go ahead and get to work.
...Only to realize that its' so top-of-the-line it's configured to use USB cables.
...And the equipment we have out back is all older material that still relies on the regular audio/video cables (although instead of red / yellow / white, it's red / yellow / blue). The player he's got can accept these as well, but he's not used to playing around with such things. As such, it's me and the #2 guy trying to get the player hooked up and get everything working so that they can talk to each other. I got it all hooked up, but the #2 guy was having fits trying to figure out the proper series of buttons on the assorted remote controls to switch the television set's input over from the cable box to the new DVD player. The #1 guy? Beside himself with anger.
So yeah - they've got top-of-the-line equipment, some of which they barely know how to use properly, and older equipment which they don't know how to work at all. Priceless.
The animals woke me up right about then, but I'd really like to know how it was supposed to have ended.

Part of a larger dream -
It was early Sunday morning, and I couldn't sleep. So, I decided to watch TV.
In the process, I discovered that The Discovery Channel and sister network The Learning Channel were now both airing anime from 2 - 5 AM Sunday mornings.
Discovery's offerings focused on sci-fi and tech-driven shows, with "Initial D", a real-life anime about street racing, being the final show on the block.
TLC's offerings were primarily fantasy shows, with a full hour of "Yu Yu Hakusho", a real-life anime about a detective who chases the supernatural, in the middle of the block.

No, that was the dream - that Discovery and TLC were airing anime. I know what to watch when I am dreaming that I can't sleep. The question I would ask is, if you are dreaming that you can't sleep, are you still benefiting from the sleep?

I know what to watch when I am dreaming that I can't sleep. The question I would ask is, if you are dreaming that you can't sleep, are you still benefiting from the sleep? Yes.?.. I think?... You are also benefiting from knowledge of what your brain is trying to tell you that you are not getting enough sleep and are having problems. This I have from an old trick-cyclist mind doc, who did a little workshop on the meaning of common dreams and why we were having them. ANY dream where you feel your sleep is being compromised is partly due to lack of sleep and your mind trying to work out a better way of getting more sleep?. Makes sense. So if your having that "type" of dream, do something about your sleep patterns, eliminate disturbances, and especially when your doing night shifts, remove the soddin' batteries from your door bell and place a BIG notice "I work nights if your call is not that important and you wake me I will come to your house and annoy you with trivia halfway through your night..." That worked for me, back in the early 90's, but I still got an ignoramus "We need to read your meter" meter maid guy that got the short side of my temper before I pointed to the note and assured him I was being honest about it. I was having problems sleeping, as you may guess, and my Doc got me sorted, by having me move my TV out the bedroom, and teaching me to get real tired before I went to bed in the first place, creating a darkened room with blackout curtains, and only going to bed when I was sure I was sleepy. Also making sure I cleared my schedule of all important stuff before I went to bed. It worked.

I had to have that conversation with the ex GF I like to badmouth. she preferred to sleep from 3 in the morning to noonish. I was working 7 at night to 7 in the morning which put me in bed around 9.

When working nights, shifts, or may other forms of silly-o'clock hours, I also had to put my phone to silent when I had a mobile, and unplug my home phone, because you could guarantee about half hour after I git to the land of nod, some silly bugger would forget and invite me out for a few beers that night... This went on until quite recently, when I gave up the driving, many people would be astounded that I was in bed and asleep by 8pm some nights, when the wife reminds then "He is up for work at 2am", then its Oh... we are just getting to bed by then?.. I know, I see then coming home on my way out.

Yeah, 40 tonner with skelington trailer and they try to flag it down as a taxi. I would ask does it look like a taxi, but obviously, to them, its a taxi-bus hybrid thing?..

I dreamed that Nope nope was on the news announcing that he was going to build a space force so he could defend our satellites from the chinese space force satellite killers.
