Musk is inspiring more people than you think. My daughter was just telling me that the organization where she works asked her to write a five year business plan. She said she had just finished her plan when she looked at her computer and saw a story with the headlines titled, "Elon Musk has a five year plan to colonize Mars." She said after she read that, she called up her 5 year plan, hit delete and started over. And even if that ends up being the only real effect of what he does - inspiring others to reach higher and do better - it's still something that has the power to change the world for the better. Again, I'm a fan and it seems your daughter is too

Even if Elon Musk does not succeed, and thats a big if, because my money is on him definitely succeeding, he was "Part".
Charles Babbage difference engine, Alan Turing and his work with computing, Bill gates of Microsoft fame, and many others, all pioneers in their field, and all remembered.
Elon Musk?. He is a sum of the parts combined by taking all those who have worked so far to set the stage for him to work, plus some more, and a hell of a lot of momentum... Yes he already has his place in history as one of the greats.
Dont care whet his five year plan says, I am up with what he has done today, and what that means to the world, and the ideal of re-useable rocket ships, and whatever that may bring.
Facts from Wikapedia... He certainly isnt a single project man?.
What he does before breakfast would be probably more than I am capable of in one day, so, I salute him, and wish him and all his enterprises good luck.

He deserves a pedestal, but not so sure one that high.

He deserves a pedestal, but not so sure one that high. to me, he is just a rich man who happens to be interested in toys that may prove beneficial to the rest of the world, and willing to spend his own money playing with them. which does give him two points of superiority to some other rich men in the world, but does not confer any special divinity.

True, he has some goals that if accomplished would benefit all of us. And it's also true that he has used some of his own money to accomplish these goals. But he is also an expert at using other peoples money to accomplish his goals. Neither Tesla nor Space-X would exist if it wasn't for your and my tax dollars. And who do you think is going to pay for his mars colony, should he get the chance to build it?

Paul Allen spent a few bucks on some toys. Including Space Ship One and a 757 that eventually was sold to your buddy.

"A Few bucks", something in the top 100 richest men in the world, and most of that is invested in his toys. The toys?. may benefit the future of Mankind at some point, but are mostly research and development. The next biggest R&D department, "In the world", for space exploration, is JPL at Nasa?.
He may have a solid gold boat for all I care, the mere fact he is doing what he is doing, for me, makes him one of the most worthy R&D people on earth. And often Beyond.
The fact he can, and IS, working on a way to send supply ships to the ISS, using re-usable technology, for me, is worth every dollar spent. Supplies only at this time, not human cargo. In the future, he may replace the Soyuz Space program that America needs to lean on so heavily, as well as the european space program, because the Ruskies are the only ones who can get Man to the ISS.
His other toys are just as worthy.

I understand how he is planning on getting them there but not so sure how he plans to get them back. So far, the only thing he is trying to recycle is the first stage rockets. Interesting that in Star Trek Discovery, they mention Musk as one of the great space pioneers along side of Cochran.

And does anyone live on them. and are they trying to build nuclear weapons? Any civilization living on one of those planets that has the capability of reaching us probably has weapons far beyond what we consider nuclear.

If they can reach us, the "Fuel" they have stored in their fuel tanks is probably more energetic than anything we ever thought we could invent here on earth.
