and are they trying to build nuclear weapons? Any civilization living on one of those planets that has the capability of reaching us probably has weapons far beyond what we consider nuclear. If you can fly across star systems, all they would need to wipe us out is a few large rocks to drop on us, and they can be locally sourced.

No, but I need to. I'm working on the Rendezvous with Rama series at the moment. That may be next up on my list.

the design of the rovers sounds interesting.

Much effort to get a picture of a rock. Hope they get a lot of useful information.

Sounds like " Total Recall" might just be a possibility after all.

spaceX has successfully tested a newer, less efficient way of moving their rocket to the launch pad.

To be fair, it's neat to watch the engine gimbal in flight.

To be fair, it's neat to watch the engine gimbal in flight. oh, it is a very seriously impressive bit of engineering. not gonna stop me from poking fun, though.

so basically, they are putting beans in the soil and checking for gas? Not just any gas, apparently radioactive fart gas.

It sounds like NASA ran some tests on with the Viking landers back in the 70's. Those test were inconclusive. NASA took their research in a different direction. Now someone is hurt because NASA chose not to repeat the tests that gave poor data. Basically he wants to do the same thing NASA originally did and he is expecting different results.
Isn't that the very definition of insanity?

Isn't that the very definition of insanity? pretty much. as I interpret the original test, they put some biological matter in the soil, and it went away, therefore there must be life. never mind that there are non-life things that can dissolve organic material.

I think the flaw in their thinking was that assuming anything that can create gas from biomatter must be alive. Seems like a rather simplistic definition of “life.”
