I'm really sorry that the Happy Fourth of July thread has taken such an ugly turn. Unfortunately, I think our Country is heading for a lot more ugly in it's future.

I'm really sorry that the Happy Fourth of July thread has taken such an ugly turn. Unfortunately, I think our Country is heading for a lot more ugly in it's future. 220 killed, and 570 more shot over the 4th of July in the US. more or less - they don't have an exact count. are you starting to question the wisdom of letting everybody have guns, yet? addendm: or perhaps to put it differently, are you ready to consider the possibility that having more guns on the street doesn't keep us safer?

As I have stated many times, I don't believe it wise that EVERYONE has guns. I know who should have them and who shouldn't. Unfortunately, our so called "leaders" have not figured that out. Not that it surprises me. It seems there is a lot they haven't a clue about. Energy, the environment, the economy, health and the list goes on. Heck, they can't even figure out what gender they are. And you expect them to figure out who should have guns and who shouldn't? Highland park, as well is the entire state of Illinois, has some of the strongest control laws in the nation. We don’t need more, we just need to enforce the ones we have.

I also could not care less about their gender. My concern is when I may be fined or lose my job because I refuse to play their game. Why should I be expected to accept them for what they say they are when they can’t accept themselves for what they really are. Instead of helping these people understand what reality is all about, we want to change the world to accept their delusions. That's why the suicide rate is so high amongst transgenders. It isn't because the world doesn't accept them, it's because they don't accept themselves, including after their transition. Just another example of mental health abuse.

Just another example of mental health abuse. studies have been done tracking suicide rates and trends among people with gender dysphoria, and the biggest conclusion drawn is that any statistics will be inaccurate because of the lack of accurate numbers. the lack of accurate numbers happens because they have no way to measure people who suffer from gender dysphoria but commit suicide rather than asking for help. but the trend they do manage to calculate is that numbers of suicides are starting to come down in places where hostility towards transgender people is becoming less prevalent. it's almost like bullying people about their gender is as harmful as bullying them about their looks, parentage, fashion sense, speech impediment, or anything else.

So bottom line, I can't accept myself for what I am, so I'm going to commit suicide because others won't accept me for what I'm not. Like I said, It's your life and you can do with it as you wish. But I think that if our mental health "professionals" would treat gender dysphoria by helping those affected by showing them how to accept themselves for who they are rater than telling them they will be happy becoming something they are not, we would have far fewer suicides.

I agree that the mental health industry has become biased towards the quick fix, rather than helping the person learn to cope with what is causing problems in their lives. but keep in mind you get balky when we tell you what you are supposed to be thinking and feeling about things. the "it's all in your head so get over it" approach just doesn't work.

meanwhile, my friend in Canada pointed out the average daily death toll in Vietnam was 20.a quick google search says the average death toll over the course of WWII was 220.
