Homemade salads are fine, especially if made with "new" potatoes, it's the storebought stuff that is an abomination. Well that makes sense. My biggest complaint about store bought usually is the undercooked potatoes in it. I can doctor up most bland salads, but potato salad shouldn't be crunchy in my opinion....except for the celery and pickles. Kosher Dill Pickles in homemade potato salad = mmmm mmmm good. Regular Dill Pickles are good too, but Kosher Dills chopped up in the mix. WOW! Love the Dill/Garlic flavor. Though I am partial to Kosher Dills anyway. When I buy pickles or buy Hamburger Dill Slices, I always get the Kosher Dill.

to elaborate: celery is not food. celery is a member of the plywood family and its only culinary purpose is as a vehicle for dip.

Do you like pickles other than dills? Bread and Butter pickles are good in potato salad and on burgers as well.

They better be really good if you have to put that much time into them. If you like bread and butter try Famous Dave's Signature Spicy Pickle. They are bread and butter with a little bit of a kick. Costco here in MT. carries them.

I'll look into them if I cross paths with them. pickles are one of the things that got put on the "unnecessary" list when mrs TLW got sick, so I don't have them very often.

Never heard of Virginia Chunks or Famous Dave's, I'll have to look around for some.
A spicy bread and butter pickle sounds good.

When our cucumbers start getting ahead of us for on eating them fresh and start getting big enough for pickles, we make kosher dills and bread and butter.

As a dutch person, let me set the record straight on one thing: "french" fries go with MAYONAISE. No ketchup, thank you. The belgians, who invented and popularised it in our country as well, will agree.

...or even with mayonnaise (agree with you on ketchup, though).

Potatoes are from the Americas, but they're more associated with Ireland.

"Chips", the English way, which are NOT French Fries.
Chips are thicker, and not always as crunchy as the "Fries" we are presented with as evidence of the other way of doing things.
Chips can come with Salt and Vinegar, Mayonnaise, a good thick meat gravy, Curry sauce, whatever you want.... Just Ketchup is for OTHER things. If it spills on your chips, you dont throw them away, but you dont start with putting the ketchup on the chips only?...
One friend I have insists on MUSTARD on his chips?.... Like WHAT?... Then I find out what he has in his fridge is a mustard mayonnaise... I have to try that, and, it works quite well.

The English call it Aluminium because that is how it is spelt properly by the people who discovered it.

Some folks make a big deal about "aluminum vs. aluminium".
Why don't the same folks demand that "platinum" becomes "platinium"?
