Depends. When an oppressed country rises up and deposes its despotic leader, who to be honest "Had it coming", I think a little brutality when ripping down the gates is required....
When my Kid finally snapped and gave the bully some of what he actually deserved for years of bullying, a little brutality was applauded. Especially as that actually showed the school that they had failed in their attempts to deal with it with "Diplomacy".... Unfortunately, in this case, that bully only respected raw violence... And a black eye proved to be a real deterrent.
I do not relish the need for brutality. I just acknowledge the fact that at times, its required....

I just acknowledge the fact that at times, its required.... the difference between force and violence whether it is mutually agreeable. in the MMA arena, kicking the other person in the head is force. in kindergarten, it is violence. and the phrase "violence begets violence" is valid both ways. despite some people's opinions, there are few circumstances under which I would condemn someone for hitting back.
