so basically, the drug company will allow the boy to be a test patient for a drug that might treat his illness; but has not had testing for children. this is not just a case of justice winning out over corporate greed - this is a pharmaceutical company putting its neck on the chopping block - because we all know that if the drug fails or makes him worse, they will be portrayed as the villain.

Valid point.
It sounds like (not having full knowledge of diagnosis/prognosis) that the child's chance of survival without the medication is maybe 25%. With the medication, it seems like the child gets a 50/50 chance of survival. 50/50 is better than 25%...
If the trial works, the company gets to look like the hero and earn lots of kudos (& cash) from investors.

It shows that the bonds between mothers is stronger than the selfish, me-first attitude of the rest of us.

big time good things can really only happen in contrast to big time bad things. if nothing bad happens, nobody has the opportunity to be a hero.

Homeless man offered job, money and a home after helping Manchester attack victims big time good things can really only happen in contrast to big time bad things. if nothing bad happens, nobody has the opportunity to be a hero. I like to think that a lot of these good deeds happen every day but the only time they stand out is with the backdrop of some terrible tragedy. Of course, you could call me a fool and you may be right.

Reminds me of something Fred Rogers used to say.
Fred Rogers, for those outside the US, was a kid's show host of "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood" for decades. He had a uniquely quiet style and delivery, and is still remembered fondly by many.

It's hard to help somebody when nobody needs help. yes, a lot of people are kind and generous and thoughtful every day; and it only gets noticed if something bad has happened.

another charity in the "keep Portland Weird" department. thebloomproject.org/I heard of them, because they collected all the flowers from the parade floats in the rose festival to repurpose into bouquets for people in end of life care.

Keytruda? I'm already seeing it advertised on TV, so we know it exists. I suspect the story has been shined up a bit - it looks like if one reads between the lines, that it went through the normal approval process to be used AT ALL, and then was proven sufficiently effective that it was approved for other uses dealing with similar cancers.

Is it really "all that and a bag of chips?..", here is hoping that it finally is something effective in the fight against cancer.
