How not to drive in the snow, brought to you by the people from Raleigh NC.: That is what happens if you keep revving like a moron on a slippery hill.

I just love the random nature of where the cars have come to rest?... The fact some of the vehicles have got brake lights lit, they want a closer look?... they still think they can get up there past the accident?...

Raleigh, NC is the only place I've ever seen a snowplow skid out while going around a corner.
I learned to stay well away from the curb, when walking there.

Traffic report in CT this morning: One major roadway closed due to an overturned tractor trailer, another one due to a jackknifed tractor trailer, & a third due to a tanker truck that skid halfway off the road & is awaiting a second tanker truck to empty his load before they try to get the truck back on the road. Beyond that, there's been some form of accident on every other roadway...
Advantage to my commute: I take a state road, which gets cleaned by state DOT & town public works plows; to the streets around the hospital, which get priority for cleaning by city plows & private contractors.

Yes. That would be advantageous...especially when the plow is the "company car" that he drives home...

service second only to having the public works director for a neighbor. Yes. That would be advantageous...especially when the plow is the "company car" that he drives home... years back, in the People's Republic of Portland, during a major outage, the boss of the power company announced that he had ordered the crews to put him on the bottom of the priority list. the general population was thrilled. his neighbors, not so much.

By the way, after getting 6" of white crap from a Nor'easter (SW to NE heading) on Thursday, we are in the middle of getting another couple inches from an 'Alberta Clipper' (NW to SE heading) right now...

we had a minor windstorm yesterday, power was only out for about 6-8 hours. THAT is a pineapple express - not a snowstorm. the news channel blamed our last snowstorm on a pineapple express.

Speaking of bad weather, how are you lot in the UK doing? I hope none of you (or your loved ones) have been flooded out of your homes.

I am okay, as is my I family, where we live is 500ft above sea level on the Chiltern hills, the rain water flows down toward the rivers where it floods on the flood plain. We will be alright unless the rain is so bad it overwhelms the drains. I did used to live in Egham though, on the Thames valley, when I was at University, and that is flooded out.

We are doing a hell of a lot better than we should.... Figures show 5,000 homes are flooded out... Back in the 70's, we had 60,000 homes under water. The water levels now are higher than that?
Its still raining... this is a long term thing, there has been a shift in the trade winds, the jet stream has shifted north, we are starting to get less stormy weather, but it aint finished with us yet.

I am back in power outage mode - and the generator is wanting money thrown at it - so it has been stalling out about every half hour. I'm guessing a floater in the carb, but it could be a floater in the gas tank.

I thought this would bring a smile to everyone's who has been dealing with the recent snow storms - that or have you running away screaming in terror to find the nearest blow torch.

Thursday/6" + Saturday/3" + yesterday/3" = 12" in one week, on top of the previous 18" we'd already gotten means I have 5 foot high snow banks & have to get creative with where the snowblower shoots snow...
