It's storming VERY heavily here @ the moment every 30 seconds a massive wave of lightning lights up the room followed by a HUGE clash of thunder that is scaring the *CENSORED* outta my poor cat! It's raining here so much at the moment that a river is now flowing down the street just outside the door to my building. Worst yet is it's meant to be like this all week I think I'll skip takin the bus to work & look at some alternative means of transport this week.

Here, we're in the fall rains weather pattern. typically not much over an inch a day.it actually stopped long enough for me to do my outside work this morning and afternoon, and only rained when I was working indoors.
the brilliant minds in the public works department have realized that putting a 3" lift of asphalt on this road wasn't enough to solve the problem.
just to prove it really exists, here it is during the dry season.

Oregon has a dry season? I lived in Oregon & the only time they've ever had a dry season was back during prohibition. of course it does. and some years it even falls on a weekend, and people get to enjoy it. I musta been there during an off year cause all it did was rain - it even snowed while I was there! Though sometimes it did slow to a drizzle but, water was still falling from the sky so it wasn't technically 'dry' & we didn't have any sunny &/or blue sky's.

That was probably an El Nino near, which is a freak weather pattern that happens about every fourth year.
but there is a reason why we have places with names like "cape foulweather" "Cape Perpetua" and "drain"

That was probably an El Nino near, which is a freak weather pattern that happens about every fourth year. Does it usually coincide with the Olympics by any chance? When I was there (in Oregon) I was a kid, but I do remember the Olympics happening that year ('88).

we had a bit of wind, and 4 hours of no power.. Luckily it's already cold enough to just dump everything in the fridge outside in a coolbox

It's a little windy today, here. not enough to consider it a storm, though.

The weather has been suffering from multiple personalities around here. Monday was upper-20's(F) with snow in the morning. Yesterday & today were upper-50's to mid-60's with bright sunshine.
We have an expression here: Don't like the weather? Wait a minute.

The current weather is 43F with gusting winds and intermittent rain.
24 hours from now it is predicted to be sunny, -3F and 4-8 inches of snow on the ground.

2 F right now, with wind chill at -21 F. It's supposed to get colder tonight.
We're not getting any snow out of this front, mainly because the air's too dry -- no moisture to freeze into snowflakes.

Antigone, I wish I could say the same. It's so cold the cats refuse to sit in the windows (but have no problems sitting on the printer to watch Chris shovel the driveway.) We're supposed to get a couple of more inches on top of the six that fell last night and the 12 that fell a few days ago. Time to put the cars BACK in the driveway so the plows can get through and block us all in again. *sigh* And I'm the crazy person who likes driving in snow. Go figure.

Noon here now and still in the 40s. Heavy rain. Cold front still up in Illinois and upper Missouri. Weather predictions now are for 2-4 inches of snow, but the cold front isn't advancing as fast as earlier predicted. The warm moist air that brought the rain from the Southwest/West is stronger than the cold front.
The rain/snow is now predicted to be moved out by 19:00 today, so hopefully we won't get much except rain and then the cold.
Though the roads will be slick where that water turns to ice.
The really bad cold is predicted for early morning tomorrow and all day tomorrow.

The weather here is idiotic at the moment.
It's been above 0 (celcius) all december and there's no snow still....
Do remember, I live more north than anchorage, Savonlinna is about as north as yellowknife,ca.

it's been sneaking up on the deicing crews lately. It makes me realize I have almost forgotten how effective their deicing solution actually IS. right now we're freezing gently in the mornings, and defrosting during the day.
