I just want the weather to warm back up so that I can get back to wearing shorts when I go out and about. It's virtually impossible for me to find pants in my size, and the only jeans that I can find are off-brands that are cut and sewn awkwardly; they're surprisingly durable, but the way they're put together limits my range of motion. It's hard for me to squat or kneel down, and I need to do both when I'm processing the newspapers. have you tried Carhartt? their standard work pants are made in a pretty extreme range of sizes, and are made for working in.

We've gotten the colder temperatures and higher winds from all these storms, but we're way below the amount of snow we should be getting. My city gets their water supply from the river, so we should be OK this summer, but most of the state gets their water supply from the aquifer -- no snow = water shortages to come.

This is about the time of year the People's republic of Portland starts deciding whether it is going to worry about too much or too little water each year.

Hay just wondering how is everyone doing after Snowagedon? No ones roofs caved in or anything else bad like that I hope. The biggest problem with this storm is the hype. Really it was a typical winter storm for the east coast of the US. The problem is that due to the Weather Channel's* delusions of being a main stream news network, every storm is one the end of the world. We got 7.5 inches of snow. Got a bit of ice on my street, but the main roads were fine by last midnight. * Direct TV (satellite TV provider) got into a pricing dispute with the Weather Channel and ended up dropping them. They replaced them with a weather network of their own called Weather Nation. I have seen a number of people on Facebook who surprised by how much they like the new weather network because it actually shows the weather and not more stupid reality TV programming. Dropping Weather Channel seams to be one of the better ideas Direct TV has had in a while.

Wonder if they get kickbacks from local markets for selling all the milk/bread/eggs? In the end, West Virginia got more snow than my area of Connecticut (7.5" v 4.5"). Something seems amiss...

It's official. California is in the worst drought in its history.
When it gets warmer, we're going to burn, I'm sure. In fact, the hills are already brown.
They're asking every household to voluntarily cut water usage back by 20%. At least, it's voluntary for now, that is. I expect that to change.
I remember the last big drought when I was a kid and it wasn't fun. We recycled washing machine water for use in the bathroom.
And there was that lovely old rhyme:
"If it's yellow let it mellow- If it's brown flush it down."
Not looking forward to summer.

Not meaning to down play your troubles Loki, but "brown flush it down" is a typical Australian summer. But I do hope that your home & family bypass the worst of what's to come - who knows you may get heavy rains over the next three months & all your worries will have been for nothing. Fingers crossed.

Tuesday, in the middle of the storm, a little after noon, I had the TV on to a semi local station (about an hour and a half east of me) They had a breaking news story on with a "Weather Red Alert." What was so important? They had almost an inch of snow at the studio. Meanwhile I already had almost 4 inches on the ground. This weather hysteria is getting old.

Local ABC station had six reporters in six different locations to make sure the viewers knew that snow was falling everywhere...

We may or may not be getting slammed this afternoon, meaning that I'll be out handling the newspapers if we do.

It's cold. -5 this morning.
I usually start to have my fill of winter around the middle of February. This year, my feelings are running a month early.

I still recall a noontime news broadcast
it started with national news: "Los angeles has had 4 inches of rain in the past week, and the flooding is getting severe."
then followed with local news: "we're expecting 4 inches of rain, today, you if you're going to be outside you might want an umbrella"
