Meanwhile in Connecticut... We're expecting another swell "snow event" that will provide somewhere between a dusting and 12" of snow. (Gotta love weathermen, with the exception of CEOs, they're the only people who can be wrong more than 50% of the time & still get a raise every year.) This means that everyone has gone into hoarding mode, raiding the grocery stores of milk, bread & eggs. I suppose everyone in CT makes French Toast when it snows... Personally, I would be stocking up on chips, beer & toilet paper...

Jobs where being wrong get you more money: 1) CEO 2) Investment banker 3) Weatherman 4) Politician

After the snow passes, the temps are going to be consistantly below 20(F) for the next week or so. Winter has arrived.

Average CT winter, we expect about 18-24" of snow. Winter of 2011-2012, we had about 60" of snow.
Jumping off the roof of your house (after shoveling the snow off) is fun...until you realize that you can't get yourself out of the snow.

We normally get a few 12+ inch stores per year here. 24-36 inches from a storm is not unheard of. On the plus side, snow melts quickly here. 10 should be gone within a week or so.

Seems my hopes of getting through winter without snow this year have been ignored completely by whoever controls such phenomena. It's closing in on us and temps are low enough that it's likely to stay on the ground for the next month or so.
I hate snow...

I'm disappointed that CT hasn't had much in the way of snow yet this year, about 6" total prior to today's snow event.

I'm disappointed that CT hasn't had much in the way of snow yet this year, about 6" total prior to today's snow event. Yeah, well I'm guessing with the amounts you guys get you don't have the same amount of problems with panicy drivers as we do. Seeing as we can go through three or four winters in a row without any snowfall worth mentioning sometimes, some people never really get used to it and they either crap all over themselves or get really brave as soon as there's the faintest amount of white stuff on the road. That gives us two types of drivers. The ones who go slow enough that all it takes to pass them is a good pair of sneakers and the ones who plow into the slow ones because they think the snow makes the road their personal playground. Either way, it means the rest of us aren't going anywhere because the accidents keep piling up. Other than that we have the idiots who don't think the law about shoveling and salting/sanding the pavement outside their houses apply to them, so after about a week you have that compacted ice layer outside their houses that you just skid around on. Not to mention the local authorities who have a tendency to use up the city's salt reserves before any real snow has even started to fall, so by the time the ground is completely covered and we actually need that salt, there's nothing left. I can honestly say that I can't remember a single snowy winter in my life where they haven't run out of salt before the clouds have run out of snow. And that's no matter what city I've lived in. They all make the same mistake every time!

So 7.5" is today's total. Actually had some fun teaching my 6 year old son t0 shovel the from walk. He had fun watching me use the snowblower. Maybe in another year or two he can do the while thing on his own.
Tomorrow they are calling for wind chill of around 0F, actually a bit warmer than we have had lately. Thursday they are calling for some more snow though. Big question now is will there be school tomorrow! Every other county in the state has cancelled school, but our BOE has yet to make an announcement.

Around here, there's lots of overconfident idiots with large SUVs. Somehow they fail to realize that having an SUV does not mean they can round a snow/ice covered corner at 35mph. I point & laugh when they find themselves in a ditch...

I just want the weather to warm back up so that I can get back to wearing shorts when I go out and about.
It's virtually impossible for me to find pants in my size, and the only jeans that I can find are off-brands that are cut and sewn awkwardly; they're surprisingly durable, but the way they're put together limits my range of motion. It's hard for me to squat or kneel down, and I need to do both when I'm processing the newspapers.

The snow has ended (actually, it ended 8 hours ago)...
Forecast: Snow will last until 6 a.m. and total around 9"
Reality: Snow ended at 11 p.m. and totalled about 4".
A pile of school systems in the area decided to close school by 10:00 p.m. last night. Luckily, my daughter's school assessed the situation in the morning and only has a two-hour delay.
