Cybermortis: Sorry, I forgot it's hard to convey sarcasm well by just text alone. Was not endorsing censorship (just maybe exile)

Besides, its far more fun for me to shout at someone for not following the rules should they be posted to death. Even Gods need a hobby ;D - CM} [/b][/quote] Can we have a "posted to friggin' death" section? Instead of hounding every fool that fails to use find, you simply move their post to that section - and perhaps they get an automated notification. {That is what The Pit is for - CM}

"search" New members might get a little confused if we tell them to use find before they post on this forum. That'll be the way that we tell the new 'uns from us old folks... "Did ya use find, youngsta?" *blank stare* "Ah, I see...you're not from round here..."

Cyber,
I understand and respect your PG13 rule.
Being as this site is not likely to be "google-able" I suspect the membership won't grow much after Disco is dead and the posted links are no longer available.
I'd like to propose a section (sort of like MBFCs "contributing members only") where we could have slightly "relaxed" moderation, psuedo-nsfw jokes and speak freely.
I'm not suggesting a free-for-all atmosphere, but more of a "Members Pub" or an "ESM Lounge". Not sure of the boards' capabilities but this section could either have restricted entry (allowed by request to admin/mods) or simply a sub-forum description warning.
In scanning the members list, I don't see any obvious trouble makers here (aside from myself). I'm sure we could maintain decorum in a relaxed fashion.
If you're interested, I could write a "warning/rules" proposal.

The idea of having a 'senior' area is tempting, and I *could* create something like that.
However, the problem with that is that you end up with a two tiered member system - those who have access to a specific area, and those who don't. This would be heightened by the fact that the only way to make it work would be to not only restrict the ability to post, but also restrict who could view that board. (This would also create a LOT of work for us poor mods, as we'd have to carefully look at individual members before deciding if they should have access to that area - and a lot of stress when we forget someone)
Basically imagine the moaning we got about 'senior members' on Discovery, then multiply that by a hundred and you get some idea of the problems it is likely to cause.
There is also no option to turn the trigger word list off on individual boards.
I've been on more than a few message boards, and also on quite a few play by post RPG's over the years. One constant theme I've noticed is that if you use the word 'adult' or any variation of that. People for some reason take that to mean that they are not only free to use swearwords and post what is basically pornographic material, but more or less required to do so.
I'm willing to be somewhat more relaxed in the watercooler, as long as the PG-13 rule is followed and members keep in mind that anyone can read what is on there - as they can any section of the Board with the sole exception of Valhalla which is mod's only.
As for member numbers. You are probably correct that numbers will fall off once Discovery closes. However there is nothing stopping members from advertising the site elsewhere, and I suspect that the new Disco set up will allow comments - which means chances are a link will get posted there at some point. If the board stays up long enough it is likely that fans will get to hear of this place, or someone may stumble across us through proboards.

Cyber - Have you notified anyone from the team that this site is here? You seem to have had an "in" and success with getting ideas posted, so researchers might be interested in culling from here.

I don't have an 'in', I just had the good fortune to come up with a couple of ideas they seemed to like. I also had the good fortune to have people make helpful comments about those ideas in the threads. (Although I say, probably too often for 'senior' members tastes, that I've had three ideas on the show to date. I've tried to say this with a degree of humour, because I'm well aware of the input other members of the MBFC had on those ideas)
The board is known to some people at MB, although I couldn't say exactly who or how many. However this is a new board - we've been up and running for less than two weeks - and we have not yet proved that it will be able to provide useful ideas for the show, or that the board will be around for a while.
These are things I can't do. I can give people a place to meet, chat, post ideas and I can, alongside the other mods, help keep threads and posts organized and uncluttered enough for the shows researchers to (hopefully) be able to find any information they need or want with ease.
Beyond that, things rest with the members who come on here. You need to post ideas, review episodes and so on, to show that there IS useful information on here and you will be around for the foreseeable future. Or of you like it is up to the rest of you to show that this place is a valuable resource for the show, and is likely to remain so.

Less a suggestion than a heads up. As was the case on the old Disco forum, twice now I've had threads gobbled up when I click the "Post" button.
If you're making a lengthy reply that you don't want to have to retype, it might be a good idea to select and copy it to your clipboard, just in case.

On some browsers you might be able to click on the 'Go Back' option to recover a post that got lost when you tried to post it.
You couldn't do this on the Disco boards as replies were written in a separate box. But on here you are always posting on the main board.

Hey, it works! Good to know.
As I recall, it also worked with the original software over at Discovery (circa 2005). When they switched to ... whatever it was at the end, "back" no longer worked and I got out of the habit of trying.
Thanks.

Create a thread for it.... I have this system on another board, there is a thread for requesting "Membership" to the members only area, to get in there, you ask politely in the specified thread, and wait a day or so.... two days is usual, that can be agreed on by other members. The usual request is that they post [X] number of times before admission?.... (Or are a previously known poster)
The other members can PM you to ask that you either deny admission or support admission if they want to, after a two day wait, you press the button to "Admit One"
Depends on how you wish to progress......
I am in favour of the idea, but also admit it can be time consuming in the beginning to admit all existing members, and check back on "The Thread" frequently to catch new requests?....
The Life of a Mod is time consuming isnt it?.....

but if it is not possible to segregate it in the trigger word filter, then it is all moot.

As you said, it would be a lot of work for the Mods - who would not only have to deal with requests to join but whom would still have to moderate that section to make sure tempers were not running high.
And as noted the trigger word system would still apply to that section as much as the rest of the board.
Besides, sensitive topics would be better discussed on message boards that deal specifically with those things.

For what it's worth, I find it difficult to see the path text at the top of the page. It seems to get lost in the brick background. Maybe needs larger font or a different color to stand out more?

Post #38, by memeengine, on the previous page gave a solution that works for me. You'll need AdBlockPlus running and you can copy and paste the source of the offending image into the filter list.

Believe it or not that was the best contrast I could find. I *may* play around with it when I have the chance to see if I can do better - although there is no option to change the text size.
It helps, btw, to scroll up slightly so the background is the bricks rather than the Mythbusters sign.

OK. It actually took a while to notice the text there. Now that I know it's there I can read it. Hmm, magnifying the screen to 125% makes a big difference. A font size change might just do the trick, too bad it's not an option.
