Yes. Boards go quiet in Summer. (Northern Hemisphere...) (Ask Lex how it happens the other side of the world?..) This is known industry wide. School holidays are usually when you get a flood of drive-by postings, except summer holidays, when the sun shines, kids get outside.... So do the parents. Board software changes?... best done whilst the boards are quiet... so do them in the summer... Its no coincidence that the boards are quiet whilst the changes take place, its probably been planned that way, because they know they will get less complaints that way. (and more time to fix the plethora of beta-glitches they missed...) Winter months, you cant enjoy a summer evening sat in the garden, so many people go watch TV, or get on the computer. Thats when we will get more postings... and probably when we can recruit more posters?... And industry wide, why do they announce the launch of new Games machines for Autumn?... Because they know that Gamers are most active during winter... its not JUST the build up to Christmas, but its a way to spend a few hours whilst the weather is inclement outside... This is one reason I suggest a text-ONLY maximum say 140 character "tittering" type post [Edit, can we insist that it be plain text and NOT txt messaage type "OMG wd be gd to c pny dropd of empire stat" type troll speak?....]in a drop box that can be quickly viewed and passed by a Moderator say once a day.... The viable ones get allowed through, the junk rejected and deleted, anything that is passed can then be discussed by Members, and if a "bloody good idea", taken through for discussion on the main board?.... I do not know how much the board software is capable of, so the mighty Mods and CM can let us know what may be viable?... Lex is on my blocked list and will remain there for the duration I remain on this board What makes it so onerous that 200 - 350 people will visit and not sign in or sign up? Why put more obstacles in the way?

The matter is still under discussion, but unless there is strong objections from the remaining mods it is likely that such an 'open' area will be set up in the near future. Specifics will depend on what options the board allows, which will require further investigation (and tinkering) by Admin when the time allows. Thank you for your input. As I seem to recall saying from the earliest days of TC I welcome ideas from members. Thread locked. CM *Update* A visitors section called 'Drop Box' has been created. Just in case you missed it. *Thread unlocked - CM*

it is a minimally obnoxious issue, but is there an option to show all recent posts? there is apparently a time limit on when things drop off the "participated" queue, and it would be handy to look at everything that has new posts.

I have a question about part of the formatting. I believe it started after the update. When I get to the bottom of a page and the click next page button or the number of the next page, when it takes me there it is always at the bottom of that next page. That means I have to scroll up to the top to keep up with the conversation.
Is this the way it is set up or could it be some setting in my browser?

There is a 'Recent Posts' link at the bottom left of the main page, under 'Threads and Posts'. Clicking on this will show you all recent posts made on the board. I think this may be your brower as I'm not having this problem. Might be worth pausing for a few moments after clicking to see if it jumps back to the top of the page.

I use that one periodically, but I still sometimes miss something I was interested in.

Then looking at a thread, under actions you can select 'Bookmark', this allows you to keep track of threads you are interested in. You'll notice that under the banner there is a tag marked 'bookmarks' next to messages, that will alert you to new posts in those threads.

I will take that under advisement for when I am in a more organized mindset.

{Mod Hat On}
Please avoid clogging up this section of the board with random chatter. It is difficult for the mods to answer questions quickly when we can't find the questions due to there being a page or two of chatter.
Thank You, Cyber.

To preempt any questions/comments.
Yes, I did move some sections of the board around as well as adding an additional board for 'Media' (as in news) myths.
I'm hoping that this will make life a little easier, as the ideas board (which is of course one of the main reasons for setting TC up in the first place) no longer requires having to scroll down as much to view.

Added a 'Hall of Fame' for those show ideas that were picked up and filmed sometime after being posted on TC.

Added a 'Hall of Fame' for those show ideas that were picked up and filmed sometime after being posted on TC. can we have comments turned back on for the hall of fame section? there's a user right now crowing about his idea being picked up and I'd like to point out that you have said that just because it appeared on the show doesn't mean they got the idea from US. (actually, I'd just like to be able to comment on what we got to see in the episode when it airs.)

The Old Shows forum is for commenting on episodes.
And no, just because an idea was posted on TC doesn't mean that the episode originated on here. In this case and the A-Team special, from what I little I can tell it does seem as if the dates of the ideas being posted and the approxamate date at which they were filmed line up. Meaning that the ideas were either picked up from here or posted around the same time MB ran into them elsewhere.
I'm having to use some common sense and Bothan related hints here. It is, for example, fairly clear that the Bothan was aware of the A-Team thread but not clear if the idea of doing an A-Team Special came from TC (even if they don't seem to have used anything posted here) or if that thread just happened to have been posted around the same time they were considering such an episode. (For example the request for Star Wars myths just happened to made the same week we'd been talking about Star Wars and Star Trek elsewhere. So coincidences do happen more often than you'd think).
Likewise it is unclear if the car-to-motorbike myth was posted on and picked up from TC, if it was something they'd picked up on independently and/or if it was something that had been on their list for a while. I do know they were aware of that thread, and it will be interesting to see how much of the information in the thread helped shape the episode - for example if they used a VW Beetle rather than a 2CV, as the latter is a very rare make of car in the US.

You'd have to manually post a link in the old shows thread, or copy-paste something from the Hall of Fame thread into the old shows one.

citadelofmyths.freeforums.net/thread/1365/myth-researchI have opened a thread, on myth research. I am wondering, should we define an area just for researching myths..... Not the actual myths, but perhaps areas of the internet where myths are either born or listed, .... Somewhere where the basic idea can be looked at and decided good or bad, the good ones getting moved to the show ideas section, the bad ones left to sink. Or do we need any more than the thread I just opened (above) in the watercooler.

Humm, interesting idea. A sort of breeding area for very basic ideas really, a festering pit of yet to mature ideas.
Let me think on this, maybe use the drop box for such things? It is the only section of the board open to visitors - meaning they can post there. I might move that board above the Show Ideas forum and change the discription slightly. That might be more practical than adding another section to the board.

As I spend quite a bit of time doing some really silly bits of research for my own entertainment, if the board requires, I can spend a few hours a week "policing" that part of the boards, splitting threads to individual ideas as required.... Not so much a moderator duty, more junior librarian with limited area of control..... I can see a couple of ideas breading in that thread already.
