I don't really need color, black and white is enough for what I do. That said, is HP better than Cannon? Or does it really matter? Looking at what TLW has, I came across this one HPM209dwe. Looks good, and inexpensive? I don't understand what the difference is between the dwe model and the $30 more dw model? From what I can tell, the more expensive one has a duplexer for double sided printing. IF you don't need double sided, save the money.

IF you don't need double sided, save the money. it looks to me like they both print two sided - but the less expensive one says it has the toner subscription and requires internet. so I'm a bit baffled. I went to the HP site - and yes, the cheaper of the two requires that it be allowed to stay in touch with HP by internet or it won't work.

I do NOT want it to be stuck connected to the internet. I like having the option of connecting it, but not a requirement to make it run. Thank you for looking that up

OK. New update.
Microsoft will automatically back up your files to your cloud account *if* they're from the most recent version of Office or thereabouts.
The time & mileage spreadsheet I've been keeping since 2009 is too old since it's in "compatibility" mode even though it *had* been auto-saved previously, but the spreadsheet I've been keeping since 2014 or so to track "retro" movie reviews I've banked and when I'm scheduling various columns & reviews to print is OK.

For most sheet, it's a simple matter to save a older .xls spreadsheet as the .xlsx version needed to auto backup. It should be easy to convert them over. I have a stock tracking spreadsheet that I have been keeping nearly daily since 2010 that I converted a few months ago.
Same thing with MS word documents. Older .doc's need to be converted to .docx. same thing with .ppt to .pptx.
Note for the auto backup to work, it has to be a .xlsx format and it need to be saved in a folder set to be backed up. Desktop and MyDocuments are the most common ones by default, but you can add additional ones if you want.

OK.
Went to pull up the official website for the city I live in.
My anti-viral responded by letting me know that it had blocked a download.
Nothing appears to have happened. I texted my editor to ask him if he's had an issue like that of late, and tagged the city's Facebook account to let them know something odd might be going on with their website.
Should all be good, right?
Thanks.

Probably just an ad that your anti-virus didn’t like.

OK.
When I go to do my movie reviews, I submit both the review and an image to go with it.
Currently, I screen-cap the movie poster off of IMDB, trim things in Paint, and do that, with my browser still active while I have Paint up as I need to reference the cast and crew names to make sure I have everything correct.
Today, when I pulled up Paint, I got some program called Duet wanting to activate. Never had that happen before.
Google says that Duet is a legitimate program meant to help users with multiple monitors manage everything, and Kaspersky gave me the little symbol saying the links are legit.
Either a recent Windows update included Duet, or my dad somehow wound up installing it.
It's OK, right? I *think* I got it shut off.
Thanks.

Does your computer have two monitors? If not, there would be no reason to use that program.

Does your computer have two monitors? If not, there would be no reason to use that program. I run a dual processor, dual monitor system sometimes. I'm not at the moment, but usually for a year or so after I get a new computer, I run both at once. high demand stuff on the new one and low demand stuff on the old one.

My wife’s studio computer has 16 virtual processors and three monitors. One monitor has the main timeline and editing functions, the second monitor has all of the audio plug-in’s and the third monitor is a large virtual mixer. When editing videos, one monitor is the main program monitor, the center monitor has the timeline and the third monitor has all of the video clips that you’re going to be using. All you have to do is grab a video clip and drag it over to the center monitor and plop it down on the timeline where you want it. Adjust the endpoints and it’s done.

I think that for people trying to run multiple processes, at once, they really should be running multiple separate systems. the trial I sat on last week, the court recorder hung up a few times - it seemed to me that really should be a standalone hardware system.

To be honest, I really don't understand what this multi-processor business is all about. When I call up the performance tab in task manager on my main business desktop, it shows 8 processors. But only 3 or 4 are ever doing anything. Windows seems to be sharing the work amongst the processors but I have no idea how or why. On my wife's studio computer, task manager shows 24 processors. The only time I've ever seen all 24 doing something is when compiling a new video with Adobe Premiere. When using the audio workstation, it never uses more than four. Again, no reason why.

Does your computer have two monitors? If not, there would be no reason to use that program. Just the one. So I'd have no need to install a program like this myself. My dad had used the computer before I fired it up, and yesterday was also the first time I'd pulled up Paint since a Windows update earlier in the week. Hence why I suspect either he installed it for some reason, or it came bundled with the new update.

They always try to push their latest/greatest software on the unwilling masses

Microsoft did another update for the computer.
The notification that there was an update and that I needed to restart?
I got a notification haptic, but instead of the notification displaying at first, the screen simply went black for half a second. I guess the notification display bit is glitched somehow.

One of the things I like about Windows 7. No updates.

Got an e-mail from what claims to be Facebook claiming someone requested a verification code as part of a password reset.
I'd unthinkingly deleted some other notification e-mails I'd gotten from Facebook (people wanting to join groups I was mod over, et cetra) so I couldn't compare the real ones to this one.
Is Facebook Mail [dot] com the legit source for e-mails from Facebook? If this is fake then I can ignore it, but if it's real it means someone's trying to get my account.
Thanks.
