Thanks. I've got a bad headache right now and so am not thinking straight. I'm just worried someone might have *actually* tried to get into my account, and was wondering about re-setting my password for real to be safe.

OK.
The e-mail on Sunday morning had the return address of "security at facebook mail dot com".
I got an e-mail today for a group I moderate, and the return address was "group updates at facebook mail dot com".
So someone may well *have* possibly tried to access my account on Sunday morning and that e-mail may have been legitimate, but it seems like since I stay logged in at all times they weren't able to make it happen. Maybe I *should* have used the "if you didn't request the password reset contact us here" link. I don't know. I've just not been well due to the heat.
I just have to keep an eye on my Facebook account, my Hotmail (since I think I naively allowed it to access my contacts list once), my Quora account, and my Indiegogo account as the latter two are tethered to my Facebook account. But I've already let my parents know to keep an eye out, and I'll let others know.

Take a look at the actual data of the header of the e-mail. Return addresses are easy to spoof and in reality contain a link to redirect your message to a different in-box. You could contact Facebook directly.

Not anything you can do about it except change the password, which probably isn’t a bad idea anyway.

I'm just bad at creating passwords, and can't remember them at all unless I write them down. That's why once I log into something I just stay logged in unless it's e-mail or something definitely sensitive.

Password changed.
Logged out and successfully logged in.
Later on I will close the browser and then re-open it to see if I am still logged into Facebook or if it will require me to log back in.
I've found that for some reason, if I am able to stay logged into a site I have less overall risk.

I have a simple rule of thumb that I never follow a link if I am not 100% sure the source is legit. I use a bookmark or type in the address directly.

Slight spook.
I typed "inflation calculator" into Google to try and find one, and when I pulled up the search results page Google had a bit up wanting me to log in to manage my apps, this in spite of my already having Google Maps open to look up something else.
I closed the page out, tried again, and didn't have the bit in place.
Likely just another bugaboo, but my heart is going a bit now.

I'm considering getting a thermal printer (maybe something like this one). Does anyone have any experience with using one? Looking for pro's/cons. I'm thinking that paper is one of the cons as you need special paper... but it's not that expensive, much cheaper than an ink cartridge. Anyway, if you've used one before, I'd love to get your opinion on what does or doesn't work.

I think it's popular for receipts because there is only one expendable to replace, but generally if I'm printing something, it's because I want it to be semipermanent.

These are basically big version of store receipt printers. They use special paper, so that is a concern. Don't know how different this stuff is from old school fax paper, but that is why you are dealing with. I question the economics on this. Paper look to be about $20-25 for about 100 sheets worth of paper. So that is $0.20-$0.25 per page. Comparing that to common copy paper is ~$7 for 500 sheets or $0.014 per sheet.
What is the logic for this? Why this over a more common inkjet or laser printer?

Many years ago, I had a couple of Tektronics thermal page printers and I currently have a small Brother thermal label printer that works well for labels, but as others have stated, the printing fades with time. With the current low cost of toner based printers and supplies, I wouldn't go with anything less, including ink jets.

Thanks! That's all excellent advice/information. To answer your question WV, it'd be more for my father-in-law than me, although I'd use it too. He complains regularly about ink prices. I looked at a laser printer, but toner would still have to be replaced, and he'd complain about that. I thought that a thermal printer might be a good alternative, but I'm thinking I was incorrect in that assumption. As always, thanks!!

The toner cartridges usually last a couple of thousand pages so if the printer isn't used that heavily, a cartridge could last a very long time. Unlike ink jet's that seem to use more ink cleaning themselves after sitting unused for a period of time, a toner based printer doesn't use any additional toner after being left unused. The only advantage ink printers may have is a little better quality when printing pictures but newer toner printers aren't too bad with color pictures now.

Something else to keep in mind with a thermal printer is that the printout is heat sensitive. Think about what happens to your Target receipt if you leave it in the car on a hot day. The heat will turn the whole thing dark. You would have to have a important printout, leave it in the car only to come back and find it unreadable.
Lets do a comparison Thermal printer: The one that WSN linked to: $150. Paper: $25 for 100 sheets: Ink: $0 Laser printer Lexmark B2236dw, $120. Paper: $8 for 500 sheets: Toner: $100 for 3000 sheet capacity.
Total cost to print 10,000 sheets: Thermal printer $2,650.00. Laser Printer $613.33.
If you have better numbers let me know, but yeah, economics say the laser printer is by far the better deal.

if he's not doing a lot of printing, find him a laser with a full size toner cartridge included. (some manufacturers ship the printer with a half cartridge) he'll probably have to replace the printer before the cartridge.
and like Greg said, they work great with long sit times. people think lasers are only cost effective at high print volumes, but they beat inkjets hands down for occasional printing.

After much debate and going back and forth, I finally decided on this printer (Canon Image Class D570 Monochrome Laser Printer with Scanner and Copier - Black), and got 4 toner cartridges right away too (it was a deal for the 4). I don't think he'll ever need another printer or toner again... although, we might keep it at our house as the wife has gone back to school.
