Nowadays, half the time something happens the neighbor goes "Yeah; we knew something was wrong with _____, but we couldn't get anyone to believe us" or something to that effect. In this case, the same day the shooting took place, a student who knew the shooter was talking with a local television station about how even the coaches were bullying the shooter and that he figured something must have finally snapped. and the mother of victim number one was talking with the local television station about how the shooter had been hitting on her daughter for over a month and the daughter finally told him off in public - in the class he started his shooting spree in. the friends of the daughter corroborated the story. "The father of the teenager accused of killing 10 people at Santa Fe High School in Texas says his son was a "good boy," and he believes bullying drove him to perpetrate last week's deadly rampage. " www.cnn.com/2018/05/22/us/texas-santa-fe-school-shooting/index.htmlwww.latimes.com/nation/la-na-texas-shooter-20180519-story.htmlAnd the father of the shooter now claims that his son was a victim too. Now there's your problem.

you are aware, of course, that there are NRA members who are still clamoring for the abolishment of gun free zones, and that the solution the NRA has recommended for stopping school shootings is to put enough guns into schools, that you can't tell the difference between the good guy and the bad guy until the shooting starts. the real problem: there are people who have the idea that the solution to their problems is to kill a bunch of people. those people can easily get hold of guns to do it with. those people and their guns can blend into the crowd of non-murderous people with guns until they decide to start the killing. the NRA is unwilling to allow any legislation that makes it harder for murderous people to get hold of guns which are designed for killing large numbers of people. the NRA opposes the idea of making it harder for murderous people to blend in with the crowd by encouraging the crowd to not parade guns around. and for a bonus, the NRA rushes to excuse anyone who fails to keep their gun in such a manner it prevents an accidental discharge. it's kind of like how the neighbors of anyone who does something atrocious is quick to excuse them. "he was such a nice guy I don't know what happened." I am not aware of any school shooter being an NRA member, nor am I aware of any school shooter being mistaken for a "good guy with a gun." I am also not aware of any NRA policy to make it easier for murderous people to get hold of a gun. Any other "facts" you wish to make up? how about the fact you know the difference between being unwilling to allow any legislation that makes it harder for murderous people to get hold of guns and making a policy to make it easy for murderous people to get hold of a gun. and yes, you're right that people are repeating the "mass shooters aren't NRA members" meme. but then there's this meme:

In a recent twitter [mass fail] the nope said that a certain london hospital looked like a war zone following several stabbing attacks in the capital. Yes that be true. However. Many of the victims of knife crime have scars... important word there, HAVE scars.. Maybe life changing?. Lets not go that far, of course they are, so leave it at that, lets look at the important part there, HAVE scars... As in, they are still alive.
Compare the statistics of a typical month of knife crime in England against a typical month of gun crime in USA, and take it down to per 100,000 people of population to equal it out a bit, but, lets look at the KSI figures, the Killed or seriously injured, and compare the death rates of Guns versus Knife crime.
Come at me with a Knife, your getting the vicious end of my walking stick "Somewhere vital", liable in the gentleman's vegetable department, I will defend myself with a weapon if I can reach it. Come at me with a gun?. I got nuffin.
In a recent stabbing in a school, the attacker stabbed someone in a not vital part they survived, the managed to sing again at someone else, and were promptly tackled to the ground by several kids from the Rugby team and sat upon until the teacher arrived, two light wounds, on in arm, one in shoulder, no kid waqs kept in hospital any longer than needed, both were back home that night and back in school next day, the attacker was of course thrown the heck out of school permanently, and was cealt with by police to a young offenders institute, it made maybe local news, not even the TeeVee.
Re-Imagine that with the kid armed with a pistol?. Maybe just 5 or 7 round, how many would have died?.

Yes, guns are more deadly than knives and knives are more deadly than wet noodles, but blaming the problem on guns, knives, or noodles, will accomplish nothing. Until we recognize that the problem is because there are those amongst us that feel violence is the solution to all of THEIR problems, we will never solve OUR problem.

and tell me, again, why we want to take away Kim Jong Un's nukes? For the same reason we want to keep guns (and knives and noodles) out of the hands of all madmen. I think on that, we can all agree.

Taking his keys away may help, but taking everyone's keys away is not a good idea. Maybe it would be better to address his alcohol addiction instead or if we can't do that, just lock him up and that way there is no chance of him getting behind a wheel.

I'm not opposed to gun control as long as it's reasonable gun control. Taking guns away from everybody is not reasonable gun control any more that taking all cars off the road is a good way to stop drunk driving.

Parties where people think they have to get inebriated to have a good time seems to also be a "thing". I can have as much fun at a party (maybe even more fun) and I don't require alcohol to do so.

You need to update your glasses. There is no mention of gun control in that statement. What I said, in case you can't read it clearly, is that we shouldn't just put the blame on guns. That's just too easy and doesn't solve the problem with people thinking they can solve their problems through violence. But I agree that keeping guns out of the hands of people that would use them to do harm is a good idea.

Here in the US, we're looking at the fact that acid attacks are now a thing in the UK and we're mortified.
We're taking it to mean that the politicians have their heads in the sand, that they're refusing to admit that they need to get at what's causing people to want to do violence to others.
Possessing a butter knife in public? Crude jokes online? Thought crime? Cops seem to be all over that, but if you're part of a "protected" class you can literally form a rape gang and no one will do anything.
That is how a lot of folks in the US see the British legal system right now.
Hence why so many of us would rather take our chances against someone with a Saturday night special than try for something more resembling the UK.
