Whatever it is, OneDrive in general appears to be fouled. I tried to manually check what I have in storage, and my efforts to do things like delete the inadvertent duplicates I made yesterday left it drawing a blank. I don't know what's going on. edit - I guess it'd be best if I didn't tinker with it until I either got more feedback or something else, and I should likely leave my files alone unless I absolutely have to edit them. First off, don't panic. The WORST case scenario is that you have 2 or more versions of the same thing... that's not really a problem as it's easy enough to look through each and decide which one you want to keep. It gets even easier than that, however, in that the number at the end is the most recent itteration, so if you have Doc, Doc(1), Doc(2) and Doc(3), the most recent one is Doc(3). As for why it's doing that, it's NOT something new, it's been happening for some time. At work, we switched to cloud computing and One Drive and run into this often. The primary cause is connection. After booting up, it's important to allow the system enough time to sync everything. If you're like me, the documents on your desktop are actually shortcut's to the file on One Drive. Allow enough time for the document to sync, and get the green check. If you do that, you'll have no further issues. Clicking on it before it's fully synced not only creates a new version, but it also turns off the auto-save feature. EDIT: Oh, and on that note, if you open a document and see that the autosave is off, you know it's not yet synced. Try opening one drive up, ensuring you're signed into it. Give it a minute or two to sync everything, and then open the document directly from there. It should be set to autosave, meaning it'll be fully synced again. If not, rinse and repeat.Everything you've described is what I deal with on a daily basis. I simply had to learn to be just a little more patient than I might otherwise wish to be. While we're in a world of instant gratification, sometimed it pays to slow things down. Right now, the minute I log into my Windows desktop it tries to *immediately* bring up Microsoft Edge. This happened around the same time One Drive stopped auto-saving. Previously, I would wait for the cloud icon to appear, the sync icon to open, *and* the GPS arrow to appear so that the news ticker on the task bar would work before I did anything. Only thing I can figure is that someone or something set it up so that the system is now trying to automatically launch Edge and that's fouling something. But if that's the case I don't know how to make it *not* try to open as soon as I log in. That being said, when I left-click on the cloud icon itself, I get a message saying "all files synced", but the two files in question have the circle of arrows by their file names instead of the green checkmark. So *something* is screwy when it comes to backing up to One Drive. When I click the save icon I get the message "saved to this computer", but that's it. Edit - I took your advice, pulled up a different spreadsheet, and activated auto-save. It said that everything was on. As a test, I closed out the spreadsheet and re-opened it. Auto-save was once again turned off. So the simple way of fixing things - which I've had to do before - isn't working this time around.

I know min asks me periodically to let it auto open software. "microsoft edge: the number one browser for downloading firefox"

If you have Windows 10 or 11, you can click on the start button (the windows icon) and type Run. Open that prompt and type "shell:common startup" and click OK. This will open the startup folder where you should be able to see all the programs that launch on login and then add or remove them. Removing a program from this folder does not impact it in any way beyond it not auto-launching on startup/login.
It is strange that the autsave is off, that's not something that commonly gets changed. However, there is a simple way to check it IF you are using Excel? Go to File, Options, Save and ensure that "AutoSave files stored in the Cloud by default in Excel" is checked. You can also adjust how often it saves (mine is set to the standard 10 min) and even where it saves.
Hopefully those 2 things help. I agree it's odd that edge is starting as soon as you login and that it could be impacting the syncing. It's also possible that, since you have a multiple versions of a document, the computer isn't sure which one to save the changes too? I can tell you that when it says it's "Saved to computer" it typically means it's not saved on the cloud, but rather localy. Good luck!

As in, there's nothing in the folder. And dad was the first one on the system today, leaving it running, so I don't know if that's why Edge didn't start up for me this time around. And yeah, I checked Excel as noted, and it's all set up. So for now, I'll be using the two back-up files I created as if they were my "mains" and have already backed them up to Google Drive as a fail-safe. This is just some sort of weird glitch, I hope, or an update that went sideways.

And... somehow, Auto-Save is working again.
Don't know if dad did something when he was on last night, a glitch finally got cleared, or whatever faulty update got fixed, but so far it's up and running.

Is it just me, or are the ads on Free Forums here getting somewhat more aggressive?
I've got Ad-Block Plus in place. Despite this, when I went to log in to day I was greeted with a solid purple pop-up ad with the word "ad" on it indicating that something was still trying to get through, and now there's another purple "ad" box below this thread.
I don't know if it's just Free Forums, if I need to update the settings on my ad blocker, or if it's even safe to keep coming here now.
Yes, it's been a bit of a day, and this was the last thing I needed.
Thoughts?
Thanks.

nothing out of the ordinary, here, but I did notice my adblock had blocked over 200 ads on a youtube video.

So it's just a new type of ad that ProBoards / Free Forums is running, but my ad blocker should be keeping me safe?
Thanks. Rather hectic weekend, so that last little bit of stress was something I didn't need.

But as long as you don’t click on the ad, there shouldn’t be any problem.

I've seen websites and service providers go to absurd lengths to prevent people with ad-blockers from accessing their sites or to get their ads in place around those ad-blockers, hence my concern.

Bit of a scare earlier when the computer just locked up.
So far I have no idea what could have caused it, and both the quick scan and full scan on Kaspersky turned up clean.
A part of me is wanting to think that perhaps Microsoft's periodic update (the little blue arrow in the lower right-hand corner that appears next to the cloud storage cloud and internet connection indicator) goofed something, but I'm leery now.

Well, I got a *different* spook on start-up, as while the bits and bobs that normally display on the main screen (the one before you log in) appeared the random scenic background image that usually pops up didn't. So either there's a glitch that picked a bad time to happen, or I picked something up off of Yahoo News that Kaspersky hasn't caught.

Kaspersky is a good program, not likly to have missed something from Yahoo news

Ad-Block Plus updated again. This time, I'm now seeing a small selection of sponsored / promoted ads on my Twitter feed where previous I'd not been seeing any ads at all.
It's a minor thing, but it's enough that I'm pondering what other ad-blockers are out there.

Iron, if you have access to your modem/wife router setting and feel comfortable with a bit of computer work, something to consider is setting up a PiHole. That is an ad blocker that works on your whole network.
This is where you take a RaspberryPi or other low cost computer and install ad filtering software on it, and then set that up as a DNS server. This will run all you house's internet traffic through the ad filer and block the ads.
